Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

All it has to do is look like rain and that road closes. Dumbest river crossing in the SW metro. Closely behind is the MN 41 at Chaska. MNDOT spent millions making both of these crossings four lanes, but left the almost river level causeway approaches.
MN 41 is right next to the MN River too. So they could fix the problem that those highways are right next to the river and in a giant lake/marsh/floodplain?

Yes. They replaced the Scott County 18 bridge with the Bloomington Ferry Bridge and renamed the road US 169. They can do the same with MN 41 and Scott County 101/MN101.

Pure comedy gold when this is coming from a Sioux fan. But Dirty, you did it wrong, you're supposed to ask them where their levees are!
Idiotic road design not withstanding, this situation would cause problems for any river system. The southern part of the state has had a fairly wet summer/early fall, and having a widespread 2-4" rain event combined with some local amounts in the 6-10" range pretty much guarantees flooding problems.

The St. Croix in downtown Stillwater yesterday after the heavy rains.

So who else is battin down the hatches tonite? The news out of Detroit here is saying the Great Lakes Area could get a storm about as nasty as the one that sunk the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

That's what I'm gathering... In the Chicago Area, we're looking at sustained winds around 30mph with 50+mph gusts...

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Weather Underground is reporting a 64 knot gust from this storm. Holy hell.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Quite the low pressure system. Evidently it has barometric readings that are often found in category 2 or 3 hurricanes.

Sounds like the Witch of November is coming early this year...

It's some nasty stuff here. Just got out of a tornado watch here. Was in adrian for lunch and they closed the mall there because of all of it. Not sure why it warranted closing the mall. But they did that.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Just walked outside for a fire alarm (probably because some *ing moron burned their popcorn again) into 20-30 mph gusts. The bike ride home should be interesting.

Aitkin recorded the lowest barometric pressure in Minnesota history this morning.

They closed a mall for a tornado watch? Really?

Pretty much every night from June through Sept., Tornado Alley's under a Tornado Watch. They're meaningless. When it turns into a warning, then it's time to panic.

When a tree or small vehicle flies by the window, I start to pay some attention.
