Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Been a lot of talk on the news about farmers not able to get crops in due to muddy fields while the crops are ready. How's your dad doing with that?
We got some beans in, but last time I checked we didn't have any more ready. I would guess that as soon as it dries out we'll be out combining beans, they should be ready very soon. We're not behind yet, and at some point if it stays wet we'll just start on corn and combine in the mud. It sucks, but we had to do it last year.

And they have a long time before it stops. Flooding in Owatonna, Arcadia, Wisconsin is shut down from flooding. I heard Faribault, MN has had over 8 inches of rain so far.

Arcadia is a town of 2500 people...1500 of them have been evacuated to the National Guard armory. They are not letting people visit family at the hospital, which is not affected but the roads to/from are. People who have clinic appointments are being escorted by police from the energy cooperative office. Schools were closed and the major employers in the city, Ashley Furniture and Gold'N'Plump, were closed for the day as well. Whitehall and Blair-Taylor also canceled school.

My sister works in the northern part of Trempealeau County and lives in Eau Claire County. The kids got dismissed early from school today because some roads were closed due to flooding and it was only getting worse. My niece texted my sister saying the rivers (read: creeks) were over the roads in some places along her bus route.

It hasn't rained a drop here, yet.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

By Wednesday the level of the Minnesota River will be at 719.3 feet. Which is one foot below spring 1993 levels (719 feet).

Did I read the weather.com reporting right? That means 101 will be closed in the coming days...

700 feet? you realize that the if the Minnesota River was at 700 feet it would flood half of the Twin Cities, right? For comparison, the Red River gets to like 40 feet every spring. :p
My guess is that 700 feet has to be above sea level, or something like that.

Yup. Sea level. That is what I figured (but didn't say)

I was just wondering if that was going to get that high. 1993 flood stage? Crazy! :o

There is a sign on 101 between Chanhassen and Shakopee that shows the water level in 1965 and 1993. 1993 water level would wash away your car on that road. And to think it will get that high now...

Maybe you dumbarses should move away from the river. Then your tin shanties wouldn't flood.

How can the water level be above the river level? The water level is the river level.

Flood stage is measured differently depending on the river. Sometimes they use a bridge, some geological feature or river bank height. Other times, they use sea level. It really depends on the river.

For example: The flood stage for the Cottonwood River near New Ulm, MN is 11 feet, while flood stage for the Minnesota River in New Ulm is over 750 feet.

Basically, the zero level is arbitrary.

All it has to do is look like rain and that road closes. Dumbest river crossing in the SW metro. Closely behind is the MN 41 at Chaska. MNDOT spent millions making both of these crossings four lanes, but left the almost river level causeway approaches.

Yep...My buddy in Shakopee said it'll be like this past spring. He's upset that his catfish fishing on the river is most likely over for the year.

Pure comedy gold when this is coming from a Sioux fan. But Dirty, you did it wrong, you're supposed to ask them where their levees are!
