Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.
It was a rather odd series. UW played better tonight than they did last night but they ended up losing with 47 shots and no puck luck at all. There were 5-10 chances that on normal nights usually find the net. I don't give much credit to Kengas because he didn't make any great saves, but he used the pipes and crossbar to his advantage greatly. A split isn't bad, but UW was the better team in this series and hopefully they can build on this going into the coming weeks.
I thought Bennett was awful tonight. The first goal was one of the biggest softies I've ever seen and the next 3 were mostly the defense's fault, but a good goalie has to make an amazing save on some of them. I really admired the 4th Gopher goal though. It was a pretty shot to the upper left that Patrick Roy couldn't have stopped.
Overall it was a great birthday weekend for me and I got a chance to see some good hockey. I even got wished a happy birthday by a Gopher fan at the Nitty Gritty with my balloon sticking out of my beer mug. Good times.
By the way, what was with the Kohl Center not being sold out for the Gophers game? It looked like they had more people for the CC series. I'm sure they'll be more people at the games after the new year when hockey picks up in this state, but a rather embarrassing performance by our below par hockey fan base. Hey Minnesota fans, any ideas on how to get people interested in hockey down here? Good luck until we meet again.
