Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

Thank you, we appreciate advice from the fan base who plays in a building nicknamed "the morgue" on how to cheer.

Well, have fun with your carefully choreographed song and dance routine from "fans" who don't know what icing is. :p

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

also...

bringing the axe to a hockey game? really?

that ****ed me off so much I can't even explain it but will try nonetheless.

I loved the axe being at the game. I thought it was cool. In my head there's no football vs bb vs hockey, we're all on the same team with 1 goal in mind, to kick some rodent ***. I don't care of the swim team, cross-country or whoever is playing the rodents, the rodents need to get crushed. Good job football team for holding up their end of the deal.

UW had chances to get up on the rodents Saturday, but just could not convert.

I was inpressed how physically stronger the rodents were than UW. They constantly out-muscled and knocked UW players off the puck. I'm very content with the split.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

I think that 13k is a bit padded. Thats probably the # of tickets sold but it looked like less that 5k to me.. Deer opener, slow start to the season, all to be expected imo so no knock on the fans, that just didnt look anywhere near 13k to me.

The "Badger Rejects" Chant? Can someone explain that to me please?

The Axe tho, thats just good natured rivalry stuff, college kids being college kids, rubbing a little salt in a wound thats been closed about 5 decades ago.. Badger Football is head and shoulders better than the Gophs...

This rivalry will be alot more fun once the new conference begins... jmo

The "Badger Rejects" Chant? Can someone explain that to me please?

Yeah. It was aimed at Condon, a Wisconsin native, after he daggered the Badgers with the fourth goal.

Badger hockey fans are, well, immature when it comes to native WI hockey players crossing state lines.

No, it's nicknamed "the Mecca" :)

And I believe the topic of discussion was knowledge of the fan bases. You could hardly call the atmosphere and fan reaction to the PK in Handy's example morgue-like.

And he brings up a great point. You guys have completely over-used the sieve chant to the point where it has virtually no meaning when you guys use it anymore.

I thought it was always funny when you did it after an empty net goal, but last night I heard it constantly throughout the game. I even heard it when we scored to take 4-1 lead.

PLEASE, try and tell me the majority of your fan base actually knows what "sieve" means. Pathetic.

They did it more than a few times throughout the game. And is it really smart to chant that when it could be easily argued that you have more "Gopher rejects" on your roster on a yearly basis than the other way around?

When you invent the "Sieve" chant, you can use it whenever you please.

LOL at thinking you invented the sieve chant. You guys may be the first to use it after every goal, but you were HARDLY the first to use the chant.

And you were the first to use it after every goal because it shouldn't be used after every goal. It dilutes the meaning. It shouldn't ever be used after an empty netter, and it is absolutely ridiculous to use it after your team is scored on.

Keep the rationalizations coming pal.

One more huge LOL at Chuck thinking Wisconsin fans invented the sieve chant!

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

**** yes. A thousand times **** yes.

I'm so tempted to e-mail a link of this comment to every single athletic department e-mail that I can think of. This should be posted on Buckyville, Bucky's 5th Quarter, and anywhere our stupid football fans post.

And not to toot my usual whine... but did I hear canned music between occasional breaks in the action?

if I thought it would matter to the AD I'd love to make it known to them that the hockey fans don't need to feel subservient or reliant in any way on the success of the football team. after all, UW hockey was kicking *** and taking names decades before Alvarez, and at least 10 maybe 15 years prior to Dave Mclain.

and the football team should also show a little humility to be honest. they think they should be worshiped and it's getting to epic proportions. two words for them: hail mary.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

Tell us how you really feel....

I sympathize with you, but would Sconnie be getting a shiny new practice facility for hockey if the football program wasn't wildly successful?

that's part of my problem. the hockey team deserves that practice facility and it shouldn't have been at the expense of ****ing off our NHL alums. when the football team wins a national title (ain't happening) then they can maybe puff out their chest and push everyone around. Regardless, hockey has NEVER needed them. 10 combined national titles speak for themselves and I didn't see Robbie Earl and Joe Pavelski wandering into Camp Randall (with the exception of the 1 school sanctioned little parade) with their rings to flaunt to everyone

I just thought it was out-of-place

Ahh, thanks. Right up there with the Kessel boo's.. I LIKE IT!!

I like that the WI fans want their homegrown kids to play for Bucky... Kudo's I say!!

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

Re: the Badger rejects thing, you're thinking way too hard about it. I highly doubt it was "aimed" at Condon. It's a stock cheer, CC = Denver rejects, UMD = Gopher rejects, etc. Perhaps not particularly accurate/clever, but it is what is.

If it was aimed at Condon, it's true. UW did little to pursue him. Whether or not that was the right decision is a topic for another time.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

Absolutely.

But producing more D1 prospects will inevitably lead to more of those prospects electing to play out of state.

No argument here..

I'd like to see Sconnie somehow get another D1 program, I think it would do wonders for the sport. In my perfect world that would be Superior WI.. Looks like MN will be adding another D1 program in the near future (Moorhead) and imo the more the merrier.

The cheer is fine, it was the stupidity of doing it when down 1-0 and 4-1, at least chant it when leading.
