Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

Sounds a lot like my family :)

I can't wait to watch this rivalry grow even stronger in the Big Ten. It will be fun playing Michigan and Michigan State, but the UW rivalry is going to go up another level IMO :)

nice:)

yeah, my Dad and Grandfather were from wausau, they grew up playing hockey so really appreciate the game from that perspective.

maybe because Wausau was small and back in the 60's there were far less kids playing hockey in the surrounding cities/counties but my dad was and still is in awe of the mn system and the ability to stock an entire team with local kids, and still have enough kids that an additional 140 or so would be playing D-1 elsewhere in the country at any give time. about 180 from MN in D-1 annually if I read that correctly.

re: the games for UW. stay the EFF out of the box. since the PK is atrocious, please please stay out of the box.

I have a very strong feeling that Michigan will end up being the most heated eventually. I still want to castrate Mike Legg and shove his nuts down his throat.

Wausau is a pretty solid hockey town. Who is the longtime high school coach for Wausau West, or is it East? I heard him speak one time at a USA Hockey event. He's a pretty sharp guy.

Pete Susens. Solid coach.

Our PK has been pretty lights out though, so advantage MN there.

Still, I don't want them to play with fire as often as they have been.

Agreed. But when they take 3-4 penalties in a row (see Sunday game vs Vermont) it really gets them out of their rhythm. I agree though, special team's has definitely been a strength this year. Thank you Mike Guentzel!

Same for Gophs. We're the most penalized team in the WCHA right now. Discipline has definitely been an issue at times.

What were the ranks before last week? I mean, it WAS UND, so we all know the PIMs would take a hit...

Still the craziest wrap around i've ever seen... Mikaeal Granlund used the "Michigan" for a goal not to long ago. (Read that on wild.com)

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

This little anecdote about the gophers. Mostly true.

Years ago, I took my wife, who is from non-hockey country and has no interest in the game, to dinner at a GF restaurant. While we were eating, the entire gopher hockey team came in and sat close by. I pointed them out to her, and I have to confess that I expressed my admiration and respect for the fact that the team was made up entirely of Minnesota kids. She commented on how small they were but good looking, in a kind of feminine way. I explained it has always been that way--the gophers have good looking players and ugly fans, while the Sioux and Badgers have ugly players and good looking fans. She thought that made sense. I've always thought that might be the source of some of the tension that exists among the three groups.
That is just totally and completely false.

I'm going to level with you, I didn't read a word of any of that.
Not gonna lie, I laughed out loud at that.:) I totally didn't read that post either.;)

Let me get this straight, you were whining about the bich session, and now return to the scene of the crime to pat the badger fan on the back... Minnesota nice doen't mean brake out the knee pads. Just sayin'

Agreed. Don't complain about no hockey talk, and then not only not talk hockey, but post something that inflames the situation. Plenty of hockey posts recently to reply to Wes. I find it telling that those were the ones you chose to reply to.

The hypocrisy is nauseating.
