No matter how awful the rodents are, it's still good to watch the UW/UM matchup. ;)

UW can actually score this year to help offset bad D zone play. Last year they could not score and had bad D zone coverage, that's a 50% improvement.

Hopefully Mr. Kunin puts some fish in the livewell in what may be his only 4 games against the rodents.

At the old Mariucci the games themselves were usually great, but you were best off avoiding the bathrooms. There you would usually encounter one or two drunk skunk fans puking their guts out, making a mess and smelling up the place. :eek: But like I said the games themselves were usually great...

Besse has 1 goal in his last 10 games and is tied with Freytag (Fr. F) and Davison (So D) for 4th on the team in goals. Kunin (Fr F) Wagner (So F) and Linhart (So D) are all ahead of him. Pretty disappointing this year IMO.

Having said that, he scored almost half his goals on the season against MN last year, so perhaps the gophers coming to town are just what he needs to break out.

Forwards

Rockwood-Kunin-Besse; Freytag-Wagner-Johnson; Hughes-Malone-Soleway; Ford-Ustaski-McGuire.

Defense

Linhart-Wittchow; Schulze-Sexton; Bunz-Davison.

Jurusik will start in goal.

So last year you guys were 2 wins and 2 B1G SOL's (shoot out losses) against us. This year you aren't as good as last year and we're better than last year.

Now sweeps happen, and it certainly could this weekend, but I'm not seeing how it adds up to much of a solid prediction.

Wasn't a prediction. I'd be satisfied with five points, I guess... but we don't win shootouts so it will probably be four.

The Gophers are improving and trending much closer to last's seasons level and saying UW is better than last year is like saying that one pile of s**t smells better than another. ;)

I'm still not predicting a sweep either, but let's call a spade a spade.

Not to mention one of the SOLs required a goal with under a minute left just to tie and force OT.

But hey, we can dream right?:)

Becky doesn't have much to play for this season, minus the games against us. They will treat this like it's their NC game, we will get their best shot from them.

Which means about 1-2 goals scored against us, if we score 3 goals we're golden.

19:58 of the third to be exact... That was heartbreaking. And one win came courtesy of a complete and utter 90 second meltdown by the Badgers in a game they were largely in control of. Full credit to the Gophers for making it happen, but it's just not something you see very often.

Strange as it may be, I think we actually match up much better against MI and MN then we do against OSU and PSU, so while I don't have any predictions on outcomes, I think it is likely to be a couple of exciting games. Key for the Badgers will be if Besse can snap out of his drought and convert on some of the many opportunities he's been getting. And if the walking wounded, Hughes, Soleway, and Sexton can return to some semblance of form. They are all playing but I'm not sure if it's because they're really ready to go, or if it is because we really have no depth and they have to go.

That's right, I forgot about the craziness in the Friday game.

All in all those were a couple of strange games in Madison last year between these two teams.
