Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

Twins refuse to be less than mediocre!

22-21

100 losses looking unlikely at this point.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

I still think that Anderson should be canned. Phil Hughes is not enough.

Agreed. Here are some interesting stats that back that up...

Team ERA: 4.51 (27th - over 1/2 run more than AL Average)
BAA: .272 (29th - nearly .02 higher than the AL Average)
Quality Starts: 20 (25th - 2 fewer than the AL Average)
Strikeouts: 270 (30th - 71 fewer than the AL Average)
WHIP: 1.40 (25th - 0.07 more than the AL Average)

While I didn't think this pitching staff would be great, I thought they would at least be somewhere around average (read: 15th-20th in most of these categories). They have been better of late, but if this team has visions of .500 at the end of the season, the pitching staff is going to need to improve on these numbers.

That being said, I didn't think this team would be a 1/2 game out of the Wild Card on the 22nd day of May.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

What are the splits for the pitching stats, say first 22 games vs the last 22? I'd imagine there's huge overall improvement.

Phil Hughes with an outstanding performance this afternoon. He has definitely been worth the money. That was also a tremendous comeback in the top of the 9th. It's nice to see Willingham and Arcia back in the lineup and performing. This team has at least been pretty fun to watch, and hopefully they can keep improving as the season wears on. 26-28 through 54 games (1/3 of the season)...I'll take it. Go 28-26 in the next 54, and we'll at least be in the discussion for a wild card spot with 54 games to go.

Willingham with quite a week: 7 game hitting streak, 4 homers, 10 RBI, batting .409. Since he's been back I find I'm starting to wonder how the Twins are doing again. (Which makes me nervous. :p )

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

Went to the game last night. Got tickets because the fiance is a Brewers fan, so we wanted to see the BORDER BATTLE!!!1!!!

The one thing that stuck out after the game...I really like Oswaldo Arcia. After he scored from 2nd base, on (I think) Plouffe's single he was fired up. It was really refreshing to see a Twins player with a little fire, one that isn't reserved and quiet. I like to see a guy that wears that emotion on his sleeve, as opposed to the Mauer approach. It helps that the guy really seems like he can hit. That home run last night was a bomb.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

Dozier leaves today's game after a collision in the outfield.
Morales drives in his first 3 runs as a Twin.
6-0 in the 8th

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

The lineup is actually not too bad now with Willingham and Arcia back, Santana and Escobar playing better than anticipated and Morales in the mix. The rotation is still extremely iffy, with Hughes being the only starter that I'd have any confidence in. If the lineup stays strong the next few weeks, and they are within a couple games within the wild card, how could they not dump Correia and Deduno/Nolasco and try to make a run with May and Meyer in the rotation?

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

7-2 final.

45K+ paid admission - pretty darn good showing for a Wed. Afternoon!

I'm honestly amazed they keep getting crowds that big.
Wait..in Toronto....my bad.
I'm so not awake today...

Records and standings don't matter. It ALWAYS feels good to smack around the White Sox! :D

Sansevere said on the radio this morning that it was the first time in 20 years the Twins have swept a four-game series over the Black Sox.
