Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

So the Twins finish the first half of the season at 44-50, winning 5 of their last 6. That puts them on pace to finish the season with 75 to 76 wins. I would call that a successful campaign for this group.

They open up the second half with a 10 game home stand against Tampa, Cleveland, and Chicago. 6-4 or 7-3 is certainly reasonable, and going 8-2 to get back to .500 wouldn't be out of the equation. Of course, I don't think any of us would be surprised if they laid an egg and went 2-8 either. :p:D:D

2-8 is much more likely than 8-2

My mental response to FS23 was, "Which means they'll proceed to go 3-7". :(

:p:D:D

Minnesota was basically a .500 team at home in the first half. Tampa, Cleveland, and Chicago were all sub .500 on the road (and went a combined 7-10 against Minnesota, going 0-4 at Target Field). I think 2-8 is probably just as realistic as 8-2, but I think more than likely we'll see the Twins win 5 or 6 of the 10. If they don't, it might be a long second half.

There's win #2.
Hopefully they can win 3 of 4 with the palehosers and finish the stand .500
Just so glad I won't have to listen to Hawk for these games like I had to living in Iowa

This team sucks so much...
They've got to blow up the front office.
Such a shame owners can't be fired.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

3-7 on the homestand.
This next series of road games (minus the weird 2 game home series with SD) should put them squarely back to the 90+ loss finish.

Ding Ding Ding...we have a winner! :p:D:D

Disappointing homestand. Oh well. My hope at the beginning of the season was 75 wins, with a challenge of .500. They still have a shot at 75 wins...but I don't see them challenging .500. The Twins started 26-28 in their first 54 games. I was hoping they could go 28-26 in the middle 54 to get to .500 heading into the final third of the season. Thus far, they are 22-29 in the middle third. They need to win 2 out of 3 to get back on pace for 75 wins. Currently, they are on pace to win 74 games.

I can't take this team seriously until they clean house. Everyone gone, and not any of this BS shuffling guys around from one position to another. Go outside the organization for a new GM, and tell that GM to do what he needs to fix it.

I tend to agree, although maybe not to the extent that you're advocating. There is a ton of young talent in the organization, and the team has been hit pretty hard by injuries and the like (there was an ESPN article the other day about how the Twins have been the unluckiest organization in baseball over the past year and a half). That being said, we are still seeing many of the same, minor league mistakes from guys.

Ultimately, I felt at the beginning of the season that this year would be a foundational year for future success (read: similar to the '01 season, although maybe not quite that much success). I thought 75 wins and challenging for .500 would have been a good campaign. This group has 57 games to go this season. To get to 75 wins they would need to go 27-30. To get to 81 wins they would need to go 33-24...I don't see that happening. I am willing to give this group the rest of the season to see what they can show. If they fail to reach 75 wins, then I would be okay with the shake up you are talking about. If they fail to reach 73 wins, I would agree with it, if the fail to reach 70 wins, I would demand it. On the flip side, if they can get somewhere between 75-80 wins, I would give the group another season given the "unlucky" issues that they've had.

That being said, I think this team winds up 72-90.

Suzuki extended 2 years 6 mil per.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

Well...this looks all too familiar. Start the season okay, playing roughly .500 ball until about the All-Star Break, and then absolutely fall flat on their face in the 2nd half. Twins are 7-14 in the second half, and are now on pace for 71-72 wins. Of course, if they keep playing .333 baseball, they'll only win 67 games.

While I'm not ready to swing the axe just yet, I'm sharpening it.

Willingham traded to KC for a minor league pitcher.
And the hometown weenie returns tonight.
