Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

Not sure if any other team curls up in the fetal position more than the Twins when they play the Yankees.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

I think Joe Mauer leads this team in hitting with a .277 average (using the 3.1 plate appearances per game eligibility level). If I'm not mistaken, that would be the lowest "high" season average for the Twins since the halcyon days of John Castino in 1981.

According to Mark Rosen there will be a trade by the end of the week. I'm guessing some middle of the road reliever. It's the Twins way.:p

Trade Ervin Santana for prospects. THAT'S the Twins way.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

We have reached the point in time when Aaron Hicks is a better hitter than Joe Mauer.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

And TR is still sitting on his hands. My guess they get Benoit and call it good.

MN isn't on the brink. They are still growing/rebuild. You sit tight on this. You have no bargaining power, so you deal with what you have.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

And should be batting third instead of Mauer. Mauer has a whopping 6 RBI in July. 6.

No, put Rosario in the 3 hole. Hicks is good at 2. And don't mess with Dozier at 1. I reallylike the look of Dozier, Hicks, Rosario, Sano right now.

Outfield? Who don't you play out of Rosario, Hicks, and Hunter?

We have a glut of OF but they all have either hitting or defensive issues. I'd replace all 3 if the right trade was made.

eta:

A. Hicks - DRS 2, WAR 1.9
T. Hunter - DRS -4, WAR 1.1
E. Rosario - DRS 3, WAR 1.6

Rosario would be around 30th for OF in DRS, the others outside of that.
Hicks 1.9 WAR puts him at 30th for OF, the others below that.

So they are all decent, but not irreplaceable.

Hicks and Rosario are trending up, they're young kids that are figuring out. Taking them out of the lineup will just hurt their development. Terrible idea.

If you are trading to win this season then you would put the better player in. If you are looking to next season then you don't make the trade to start with.

It does seem like the Twins aren't looking to win this season despite there WC2 position.

The Twins are rarely looking to win this season. They have the perennial philosophy of building for the future and only around 10 years ago did they have short lapses in that judgment to actually try to make plays for going deep into the post season.

Given how young this team is, there is more value to the organization to develop the prospects that are now at the MLB level than there is to get to the Wild Card game, and probably be 1 and done. If they make it with the kids, that would be awesome, but I have no interest in them making moves that will delay the development of the key prospects.

Rays, Kevin Jepsen (rp) to the Twins. Sounds like 2 low-level minor leaguers going back to Rays.

Chih-Wei Hu and Alexis Tapia.

Tough August schedule for the Twins. Tor, Cle, NYY, Bal, TB, Hou, Tex all on the docket.
