Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

I think the real point is to not try to convert every pitcher to be the same. If you have a fireballer with high pitch count and K's let him be that. It's ok to have variety. Not everyone needs to be a control pitcher with an 88 mph fastball.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

Here is the problem the Twins have, and it won't be solved by firing Gardy, or by mercifully letting Anderson leave. It has to do with pitching, and the myth management keeps perpetuating that they have "live arms" in the system. No they don't. They maybe do if you consider a live arm to be what's hanging from the shoulder of my 69 year old aunt.

I think it was the Cardinals who started it, but it's moved on to teams like the Royals and others. You draft pitchers who throw the ball hard. Period. You draft or sign 30 of them. If only 4 work out, great.

Until they do that, forget about it.

It is exactly this. I watched the 9th to the 18th innings the other day of the Giants vs. the Nationals. Litterally the last 60 outs of the game. In that time no pitcher was brought into the game who couldn't throw a 94MPH fastball. There will be some rare exceptions such as that soft tossing Red Sox closer in '13, but quit using 4-5 bullpen spots on guys who can't bring the heat.

Johan Santana signed a 1 yr minors deal with Toronto. So no homecoming for the Twins.

Mauer break .300 and hit at least 10 dingers this year? He has hit a total of 13 homers at Target Field. 13.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2014: The Quest for .500

Apparently this team isn't exciting anyone. Though they have won 2 straight division series to move into 3rd.

I've been talking in the MLB 2015 thread since I hadn't seen a 2015 Twins thread. I'd be ok with continuing this thread.

It's tough to capture the fans' excitement when you open the season 1-6. It takes a lot of change to remove that kind of stain from peoples' memories.

Twins at 6-9 and play the Mariners. They could win the series, but not today's game. King Felix is on the mound for Sea.

4 game sweep of the White Sux. You can put it in on the board.
