Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

I hope that ball didn't touch the ground on Span's back to the infield. They might have called him safe again.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

Delmon Young knows how to properly deal with umpires that bad. I think Delmon and Span need to have a heart-to-heart on this topic...

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

That was a horrid call, but what the hell was Span doing? That is just bad fundamentals.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

I knew you would ;)

What Span did with the ball post catch was bad. I only saw the replay so I dont know how many outs there were or if anyone was on base...but always secure the ball. He friggin dropped it because his free hand was nowhere near his glove. Don't drop the ball, no bad call by idiot umpire.

I mean jesus even Delmon just made a nice catch ;)

haha.

True, but he took 5 steps with the ball in glove on an extremely long run and it's hard to trap the ball when you're reaching that far to grab it (again, on the run).

Easy solution...dont grab it while running ;)

It is one play in one game, even Torii Hunter made mistakes from time to time in the field. I think he might need a day off though clear his head...couldnt hurt his batting average ;)

I believe it was one out, man on first. But the guy on first was already rounding 2 so he would've had to go back to tag up, so Denard really had enough time to pull up and make sure he hung on to it and threw it in.

Hard to make that decision on the run though.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

Neshek didn't help matters any. I think he threw one strike in 7 pitches.

Only if you count pegging Cabrera as a 'strike'.

Span's dropped ball was probably a bad call, but when you're running with your back to the umpire and drop the ball that quickly, you leave yourself open to that possibility.

It's nice to actually see a bad call or goofy play go against the Twins every once in a while, since it's usually the other way around.

What a difference a week makes though, between this...

"All I saw was the umpire said out," Gardenhire said. "We're shaking hands and I don't really give a flip whether he's out or safe."

...and what we saw tonight.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

So, do we have a solid starting pitcher besides Liriano? Slowey maybe? Baker and Blackburn sure aren't going to well.

Liriano, Slowey and Pavano are solid. Pavano had a rough start, but bounced back nicely, and I think Slowey will be fine. I'm worried about Baker and Blackburn. Last year it took until a couple months in for Baker to hit his stride, hopefully the same happens this year.

Aaah, I've just been unlucky and watched Pavano his rough start and every time I turn em on Baker or Blackburn is on the mound. I might have to just adjust my Twins schedule by starter. :D ;)
