Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

When you put three of them together between words like that, they're called elipses, not periods.

Oh, and mariucci, the word "bias" has two forms, you should learn which one to use if you're going to use them so frequently. One can have a bias, but then one is biased or one can be unbiased. One cannote be unbias, that makes no sense in that form. /grammar lesson

;)

/spelling / typo lesson. :D :p :D

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

The officiating was so embarrassingly horrible, if I were Don Adam and Tim Walsh I would deny being a referree if asked by a drunk co-worker at the company Christmas party put on by their employer for their "real" job. That being said, I'm glad as H-E double hockey sticks they were as bad as they were. The Gophers won. Who knows? If Adam and Walsh performed competently, maybe MSU-M comes back and wins. Maybe their ridiculously horrible calls made the Gophers mad enough to buckle down and play harder. Maybe going on and off the power play for both teams interupted MSU-M's momentum they were building. Again, who knows?

Here's where Dirty's (expected) and FS23's (not expected, somewhat shocked actually) acusations of Gopher whining is completely off base. When you win the game, you get to complain about the officiating all you want. There are no Gopher sour grapes here because they won the game. When you're complaining about the officiating in a game you won, you're not making excuses for your team's failure, directly or indirectly. You're not diminishing the winning accomplishments of your opponent by blaming it all on the refs. You have the same right as a neutral observer watching the game as a hockey fan. In this case, Adam and Walsh were horrible. I believe they were horrible for both teams but I also believe their calls hurt the Gophers more than the Mavericks. Biased opinion? Probably, but I would think an unbiased and neutral observer would agree with me. After all, my opinion isn't influenced by my anger of a Gopher loss. ;)

Dirty & FS23, I get the whole "You're a sue so you hate the Gophers, and I'm a Gopher so I hate the sue" thing, but your finger pointing completely missed the target this time. Again, expected from Diry, somewhat shocked by FS23 who I consider to be a pretty reasonable and knowledgable sue fan. Not in this case though. Maybe you had just as bad a weekend as Adam and Walsh did. As for Dirty, you just keep proving that quantity of post count doesn't alway mean quality of posted material. Keep on keepin' on brother. ;)

I understand the logic behind this post, and I'm sorry if I "shocked" you by calling a spade a spade. North Dakota fans get ripped on when we complain about the officiating (especially in wins, as was the case here), yet when Gopher fans do it, it is a legit criticism of the game. Again, I didn't see the game, so I'm not commenting on the officiating. I'm merely stating that Gopher fans do the exact same thing that every fan base does when they feel the officiating is bad. What Gopher fans did this weekend was no different than what Sioux fans have been ripped on for in the past. Frankly, I'm tired of it, and wanted to voice my opinion. I went a little too far in the other thread, and it wasn't necessary, but the point remains valid. That being said, this post sums up my opinion, and is probably what I should have said in the first place, so I'm not going to keep badgering my point.

*steps off soapbox*

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

I understand. I have gotten worked up and gone off on this board too. No worries. So you know, I never meant to imply that the bad officiating is what kept the games close. Mankato has some great talent. Love that freshman line. I just think the officials should have let these teams play a bit more instead of taking over the games (more Saturday than Friday) with what appeared to be a officiating battle.

I love the freshmen we've got right now. It's just that they are playing WAY too much right now. The offensive players are speaking for themselves. Palmquist is the defenseman I'm excited about. He was making some very mature plays this weekend. I don't know if it was here or somewhere else that I posted, but in the Duluth series the kid played 38 shifts one night and something like 32 shifts the next because of injuries. That's too much for a veteran to be playing let alone a freshman.

As for the refs, I agree it got a bit overbearing, but I understand why they started calling it so tight. After the start in the first period, they needed to call it close. Both teams were starting to get chippy early. Lehrke got a stupid penalty early and put MN on a PP and they scored their first goal. Bjugstad was crashing the goal HARD early and MSU wasn't taking to nicely to it. The refs started tightening it up and things started flowing. Then late in teh second, the chippy stuff started again. The refs then started calling it overbearingly tight. My wife even said a couple of times that there was "going to be blood" because of the stuff that was happening. I honestly don't mind what the refs were trying to do, however, I think they were going off of what they thought they saw rather than what really happened. I would argue that the way Rau hit LaFontaine was legal, but from certain angles and at full speed it could look like it was more than it was. Same thing with the Hayes tripping a couple of minutes later. The ref saw the tail end of it and saw guys sliding on the ice (I actually saw the ref turn his head and see the last part of it as he was right in front of me when he called it). Again, it was bad, but understandable.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

You really just refuse to accept this point, don't you? Perfect Gopher fans again. Awesomeness.

It's hard to accept a point when it's completely invalid. Nice try but fail. Move on to hijacking the MTU thread now so we can move on.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Yep, Gopher fans don't do the same thing as other fans. You're right. That's why they are perfect.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Yes, because Gopher fans are perfect. When they complain it's always warranted and OK. It's the perfect double-standard.

Is that why you follow us around? Hoping our perfection will rub off on you?

It's over... move on.

No, as I am also perfect. I don't need your perfection to rub off on me. This is why I'm trying to help you understand that Gopher fans do the same thing as other fans, even though they obviously don't want to admit it.

Wait... Gopher fans are perfect. Your own words. Does that mean you are one? Certainly would explain your presence in this thread.

Speaking of rubbing off, is that what you do as you wallow around in Gopher threads obsessing about the Gophers and their fans?

Holy hell, why are you feeling so sorry for yourself in this thread? It's pathetic. I agree with Tiggs, move on, dude.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Now what fun would that be? If you silly Gopher fans would just admit that you are just like other fanbases, it wouldn't be such a huge problem. But you just can't admit this, so let's just continue to have our fun pointlessly arguing with each other. It's all good with me since I'm right. I'm extra perfect, that's how I know I'm right.

I'm pretty sure multiple people have pointed out that all fanbases complain about officiating at some point in time. Our point is that you are doing this right now:

Sue fans take it to a whole new level. That is our point.

Go back and read those threads if you want to see the one Gopher fan who was ripping Happy for starting those threads.

I'll give you one guess as to who it was....

EDIT: It was for the exact same reason that you listed, so please don't "donkey" me.

Are you upset because you were unfairly grouped with your fanbase?!

Upset? No, but I wanted to make it clear that I am not one of those that is out obsessing over sue.

I think Happy is an idiot. All he does is rip sue fans and I'm sure at some point he has accused sue fans of obsessing over the Gophers and yet there he is starting threads about sue. Ah, I'm pretty sure that is the same thing he rips on sue fans for.
