Minnesota State @ Minnesota

More bricking by MNS. He was talking to RWD. All we heard after the sweep in Duloot was how it was puck luck, Patterson stood on his head, the refs were biased, etc. Several Dog fans refuesed to give the Gophs credit for beating the defending champs twice in their own building and RWD was one of them.

I know it was aimed at RWD. The problem is she's right. Every fanbase complains. For some reason some Gopher fans won't accept the same comments made by them as has been made by UND/UMD/etc fans as complaining. You're not better than everyone else. Deal with it. :D

Wrong. I think this thread is a glaring example that we are better. :D

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Wait... you mean that on a team's own message board they are more homers and conspiricy theories thrown out? I'm shocked! /sarsasm

First of all you have to acknowledge that all your examples, and I'll admit a couple of them do actually support your arguement but definitely not all of them, were taken from GPL and at no time did this conversation revolve around GPL. Post this on GPL and have that debate there if your issue is with them. You will always find fringe members of a fanbase to support virtually any claim you want to make. But JDUBBS is saying that it is way easier to make claims on other fan bases in question here versus the Gophers so you guys apparently have a more vocal fringe than we do which may indicate they aren't so fringe.

Had UMD and the nameless Sue not been swept I don't think this would still be continuing, but obviously those fans are still... in your words... butt hurt over it and are determined to show us up in retribution for taking 4 points from both teams. Several people have tried many times to end this yet it still continues. What's your hang up?

Why wouldn't we make fun of the holier-than-thou attitude of Gopher fans if we had swept the Gophers, or split, or taken three points, or one point? It doesn't change the argument. It doesn't change that I am right, FS23 is right, Dirty is right, MNS is right, and there are people on here so afraid to admit that I am right that they will go to any lengths to try to find a loophole.

Why does it matter where people say things? Do you think that people aren't drawing their opinions about Sioux fans based on things they say on Sioux Sports, or Bulldogs fans based on things they say on tPB? Again, this is another way of Gopher fans looking for a loophole.

This is all just so silly, because the Gopher fans on here are looking like desperate idiots who are scrambling to find a moral high ground that is crumbling underneath them. Just wallow in the muck with the rest of us. It's more fun. You guys should really get back to sewing that "regular season sweep of the reigning national champions" banner, because that's definitely a more productive use of your time. Just admit defeat and move on.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

We have been trying to move on. But there are opposing fan bases with no vested interest in the game other than hoping for our defeat to reclaim a spot in the standings won't let it go and keep dragging us back into the muck to explain this over and over. Admit defeat of what? It keeps getting brought up about how much better we think we are. Well, again I say if this thread doesn't prove that we are I don't know what will. Maybe you need to admit your obsession with us and move on. There are 11 other steps that follow, or just give up your charade and become one of us because it sure seems like you want to.

Ofcourse you're right, you're not a Gopher fan, neither is FS23 or MNS.. So long as a Goph fan mentions poor officiating it immediately elivates the fandom of UMD, UND, UNO, UW etc. Am I right? Close?

Since you're so well versed on the topic of fandom, I have 1 question for you. Why did Amsoil clear out at the end of the 1st period during both games in the UM/UMD series? I went to both games and DVR'd it.. Was there a special event in town I was unaware of? The Dogs just won the NCAA and they were both intense games that could have gone either way, just curious, I was surprised at that. (and thats not a dig, im just curious).

You mention Gopher fans whinning about officiating (which is very weak ammo for you, because it was poorly officiated), yet you're all over this thread whining about Gopher fans behavior, do you not see the irony?

I find it entertaining to see how many different ways Gopher fans can defend and excuse and explain and rationalize their ref-whining while simultaneously decrying the ref-whining of others. Also I enjoy needling people. For some people the very sight of the words "Runnin' with the Dogs" makes their stomach churn with unresolved anger toward, I don't know, their mommies, or a popular girl that rejected them in high school, or whatever their own insecurities are. For others, I have to actually say something before their knee-jerk reaction is to explode and froth with anger and hatred and dig their heels in and refuse to admit anything I say is true. But whatever the case, why deny people the outlet they clearly so desperately need for their expression of their own failings as human beings? And why deny me the entertainment?

Just because you saw on your DVR that the arena cleared out, but if you went to the games, you would rescind your statement. We have this thing called the curling club, it's a bar attached to the rink, and many people get up and go to that during intermission. Not everyone gets back in time, so if you are referring to that period of time, then maybe that's what you saw.

I'm going to try to bring some light on this entire argument. RWD showed arguments that were made from GPL (you can refute those arguments saying that they should stay in GPL, and that's fine) and there are quite a few of them that say that there is some conspiracy against the gophers because of the officiating. This may not be someone coming out and straight up saying, "The refs were trying to screw over the Gophers and lose them the game", but statements such as, "that embellishment call on Kyle Rau clearly showed the refs were trying to keep Mankato in the game" says the exact same thing, just a little less bluntly. (and I'm not saying that's an exact quote, just using it as an example of a statement like the ones I've read.) When your fans make statements like that, it makes you sound arrogant. You still won the game. Good for you guys. But the biggest argument that RWD is trying to make is that when fans make statements like that, it's alright. We're all arrogant towards our own teams, it's part of being a fan. But to act like you're better than everyone else and to say you don't do it, then continuously do it, shows a different kind of arrogance. That's where UMD and UND fans alike get frustrated. You do what everyone else does, you just think you're too important to be blamed for it.

For the record I haven't been to GPL in awhile and rarely visit the site. Imo, the officiating was poor both ways, definately did not favor MSU.

I was at both games, and many did leave the game (both nights). Wasn't sure why, especially after just winning the title.

As for fans being "above" any other fanbase, thats an age thing, or just plain ignorance. Most Minnesotans have Gopher fans in the family, related to, neighbors of or coworkers, ditto for UND, UW and UMD (arguably the 4 biggest fanbases in the area). And anyone who says the Gophs fanbase just simply doesn't have a target on their backs for being the most hated fanbase of all is simply lying. But it hasn't always been that way, the age of communication has changed alot of that. I'm 42 and we've had season tickets my entore life and the in-state hatred at its currrent level is new.

Has anyone EVER thought of this, UMD has kids from the city on their team and the Gophs have always had kids from the Duluth area on their team ditto for UND, UW etc. Does that make them less or more of a good sport because of that? How about your family members that root for the Gophs/UMD/UND/UW, less or more of a good sport? That may seem trite, but its true. You can brake that down to what HS you root for.

Its an age thing, or without sounding condescending an ignorance issue.

College Hockey fans in the MN area extending from Fargo to Madison are identical, and its assinine to think otherwise.

Thos that think a fanbase elevates themselves because of the team they root for, is more likely the individual that feels some sense of entitlement their not recieving. jmo

I see the Gopher Obsession is back to pre-struggles level.

Indeed. Didn't take long at all.

I can't believe they still keep at this. We're not really even arguing anymore, except when someone new joins in. We're down to just pointing out how stupid this whole thing is but they still won't give it up. I even admitted some of RWD's quotes from GPL did support her point, even if her point was completely wrong ignored the point she is attempting to argue against.

A lot has been made of how much better we think we are. Once again I'll say that this thread is proving it over and over that we are better. Why are they suprised?

Obsession will do that to a person. It's like a drug addiction.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

The best part for me is that darn near every one of these fans from other teams watched the game. Have they nothing better to do than watch the Gophers, the team that they probably most despise?

Sioux were in Alaska, UMD was in Houghton. A lot of us are college hockey fans as well and will watch any college game on TV that we can. If I can watch the Sioux, I will. If I can't, I'll watch another game. Living in the TC, that usually means the Gophers.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

cross seems to be one of the few that realizes the perspective in all of this. Gophers fans - Dirty is fishing and RWD is a ______ _____. Just ignore.
