Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Let's just put this "ref-whining" argument to bed here. First of all, this is hardly the first time Gopher fans have been butthurt about officiating. I cannot believe the amount of butthurt coming out of Gopher fans during tUMD-Gophers. Butthurt that lingers to this day and has caused certain Gopher posters to behave like they are in junior high school.

Let's go to GPL, where apparently Gopher fans say what they are too cowardly to say on USCHO:

"I know we'll all be seen as homers, but this was the absolute worst officiated game I've ever seen. Walsh can suck it. It's clear that he certainly didn't want us to win, bet against us, is scared of his bookie, Lucia kicked his child..."
"If I were a more cynical person I'd say Walsh had it in for the Gophs, but I honestly don't want to believe that. I will say that his roughing calls belong over at Ridder, not at Mariucci."
"I think if the refs don't get so whistle-happy, the gophers would have broken 5 goals and Mankato gets maybe 1. When they were actually allowed to play, I was really happy with the gophers' play tonight. Impressive that they were able to stay in the game and maintain any kind of flow while being on the kill so long."
"Beating a dead horse...those officials should be embarrassed. The best moment was when, after the Bjugstad penalty the linesman skates over to one of the refs and asks if it is 4v4. The ref says it's a PP and the look on the linesman face was classic. He's like, really? Are you serious? It's not even?"
"How in the HE** can the officiating crew explain their way out of this one? Their jobs should be on the line after last nights game...and AT HOME none the less."
"I'll throw my conspiracy theory out that the "loyal" teams are gaining favor with the league. What else can explain Tech being in the middle of the pack and that set of officiating this weekend?"
"I don't think anybody can be accused of being a homer last night based on criticisms of the refs. First of all, we won the game so if you are winning and still *****ing about the refs, odds are there were probably some pretty bad calls. "
"I am really looking forward to the next couple of days to see where the locals here in Mankato have to say about this series. Usually when they lose they blame the refs for costing them the game, this weekend the refs were on their side and they still lost the game. I will literally LAUGH in all of their faces if they try to deny how bad the refs were tilted on how they called the game."

"I boo'ed at the refs last night more than I have in any other game. Terrible calls, terrible control of the game. The Rau embelishment penalty was brutal. My eyebrows went up in the first period when a Mankato player hit a gopher d man from behind, head first into the boards, ref (#11) standing there watching, no call. Right in front of him. Downhill from there. Definitely trying to prevent the gophers from getting a power play and keep the game close."

Please, children. Gopher fans whine about how they were screwed by the refs, just like every other fan base. Don't pretend you're above anyone else in the league. And whining about the refs when you win is called being a sore winner.

I anxiously await the spin that certain posters will put on this, and of course the slings and arrows of misdirected sexually frustrated rhino rage that usually come my way when I post.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

RWD - When a Gopher fan blames the officiating for a loss, or even better, when they try to create some grand conspiracy that the refs somehow favor the other team (like you are famous for), please come back and let us know. Until then, you have nothing to substantiate your claim.

Because, again, making remarks about poor officiating is different than blaming the officiating for a loss or constructing some ridiculous conspiracy theory because your fragile ego cannot handle the fact that your team lost.

My team didn't lose. I don't cheer for Mankato. Please read my post, and read what your sad widdle compatriots were saying. I know it's really really hard for you to admit that I am right, but deep down you know you really lust for my approval. Just unburden yourself. "RWD, you are right. Gopher fans also complain about the refs." Honey, it's ok. It's like masturbation. We all do it. Even Rocco.

Complaining about the refs when you won isn't some way of taking the high road, or some way of saying "see! I know SO MUCH ABOUT HOCKEY ZOMG!!!!@!1!! Look at MEMEMEMEMEME I'M SO GREAT AND SMART!" No one looks at you and thinks "By Jove, that chap might be onto something! His team got a jolly good sweep, and he is still expressing displeasure with the officiating of the game! Why, he's quite right! Pip pip cheerio!"

Yeah, you weren't blaming the refs when we swept you in October

And AGAIN... No one is denying that we remark about poor officiating. We just don't blame our loses on it or construct cute little conspiracy theories about how the refs are out to screw us because of whom we're playing.

Many of the posts I quoted were specific examples of conspiracy theories.

And of course I complain about the refs! Did I not just say we all do it?

Come back and talk to me after we try to cut down an opponent's victory by blaming the loss on the refs. Gopher fans have the capacity to criticize our team for poor play, something we rarely (if ever) see from North Dakota fans or you. It's always someone else's fault when you lose.

Well duh.

It's just so funny. You cannot stop spinning your wheels here. By deflecting the argument to a proposition irrelevant to the argument, you have conceded I am right, and Dirty is right, and FS23 is right. I'm declaring victory.

Again, you are trying to create a moral high ground that isn't there. It's cutting down a victory when one complains about the refs on a loss, but it's not adding insult to injury when one complains after a win? It's still stupid. Everyone does it, because we're humans and have emotional responses. But not everyone tries to give some moral justification for why when "they" do it, it's okay, but when someone else does it, it's the end of the world.

No, I don't think it's the same to blame a loss on officiating and to call poor officiating what it is in a win. In fact, I have zero problem with people criticizing officiating in a loss as long as they don't blame the loss on the officiating. Acknowledge the other team's play.

When Gopher fans are guilty of not recognizing the other team's play and blame a loss on the officials, come back. Until that happens, I stand by my points. And until then, I'm done with this discussion. It's run it's course and I'm moving on to this week's games.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Show me an example of a Sioux fan doing this...

More bricking by MNS. He was talking to RWD. All we heard after the sweep in Duloot was how it was puck luck, Patterson stood on his head, the refs were biased, etc. Several Dog fans refuesed to give the Gophs credit for beating the defending champs twice in their own building and RWD was one of them.

How can you declare victory when FS23 and Dirty were doing the exact same thing that you explained? You say everyone does it, which to me would include FS23, Dirty, and yourself, and here you guys are ripping us for it being "the end of the world".

You didn't even listen to JDUBBS' point. The point is that sue fans, WHO HONEST TO GOD BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A CONSPIRACY AGAINST THEIR HOCKEY TEAM when it comes to officials, should not be ripping Gopher fans for being a little worked up about a poorly officiated game. Gopher fans while pointing out a poorly officiated game may say that the officiating took away from the game or "messed up the flow of the game" as was said after Saturday's game. But I highly doubt you will find more than a small handful of fans who believe that the officials have a conspiracy against the Gophers. I don't think anyone here is saying that Gopher fans never complain about officials. The point is that sue fans take it to a whole different level and it's hysterical that they want to rip on other fanbases.

I just hope this doesn't make me look like a sore winner.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

RWD is just fired up because her favorite bike is broken.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

So the opposite must also be true. Since I do not believe there is a ref conspiracy against UND, I should rip on Gopher fans for getting worked up about the officials. Good to know that I have your support. :)

Anytime officiating is even mentioned in a UND thread this entire conversation sparks up and UND is the bottom of the barrel hacks and crybabies according to the golden halo fans who are in turn tied for 3rd on the all time Hypocrites Hall of Shame list. The fact remains that the officiating during Saturday night's game MSU v UMTC detracted from an otherwise good contest, sometimes that officiating rears it's ugly head at UND, and regardless of what is happening on the power play there are always 10 Sioux fans around me yelling "SHOOOOOOT!!!!" :D:D:D:D:D

Wait... you mean that on a team's own message board they are more homers and conspiricy theories thrown out? I'm shocked! /sarsasm

First of all you have to acknowledge that all your examples, and I'll admit a couple of them do actually support your arguement but definitely not all of them, were taken from GPL and at no time did this conversation revolve around GPL. Post this on GPL and have that debate there if your issue is with them. You will always find fringe members of a fanbase to support virtually any claim you want to make. But JDUBBS is saying that it is way easier to make claims on other fan bases in question here versus the Gophers so you guys apparently have a more vocal fringe than we do which may indicate they aren't so fringe.

Had UMD and the nameless Sue not been swept I don't think this would still be continuing, but obviously those fans are still... in your words... butt hurt over it and are determined to show us up in retribution for taking 4 points from both teams. Several people have tried many times to end this yet it still continues. What's your hang up?

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

With all her talk of butthurt maybe her bike was used a little too much lately, she may want to give it a rest once in awhile.

I'm here to help.
