Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Seriously, I would have been ashamed to be a Gopher fan in the crowd begging for calls that were just as bad as the calls they complained about last night. There was a TON of Gopher whining during and after the game.

So, you think the officiating this weekend was alright? Because you guys got hosed as much as we did.

Wow, and you complain that other people put words into your mouth?

I remember why I avoid this place most of the time. People can't have a legitimate discussion about events. They're more worried about "winning" the argument that they make up stuff about what others say.

I'll type this really slowly for you:T

Just to translate for you, in no way, shape, or form did I say the officiating was alright. I just said that I would be ashamed to *****, complain, whine, whimper, bellyache, gripe, moan, criticize, grumble or protest about the refs the way that was done. It was like it was a travesty of injustice was done to the Gophers. It just wasn't. It was a poorly officiated game that was accentuated on TV and in the crowd because a couple of them went against MN. There were just as many bad calls that went against MSU. Off the top of my head, the missed CFB with 4 minutes left, the holding on Cooper just before the Rau "embellishment" penalty, and the Hayes "trip" (the last two of which eliminated MSU PPs). I'm just saying that the players of both teams won and lost the games, not the refs. They were not the greatest, but they didn't have the effect on the games that you guys are claiming.

What effect? MN won. And MN fans still say that the games were poorly officiated. Go home, son. Let the adults talk.

I would be ashamed to use that many periods in anything I had ever written.

Holy hell, it's like talking to a brick wall. Point being, I'm hearing a ton of *****ing and complaining about the refs as if it caused the Gophers to not blow MSU out. The whining of Gopher fans is ridiculous. Go to GPL. Listen to the fans at the game.

And please, grow up. Your demeaning comments show nothing and mean nothing. Little insults like that are what you use when you can't speak like an adult yourself. Good job.

Here's the deal. If you're a Gopher fan and say the game was poorly officiated the fans of other teams read it like this "the Gophs would have won with a larger margin" and its ONLY Gopher fans that would stoop so low as to say something like that, my UND neighbor or UW cousin would NEVER stoop so low as to say something so outrageius as that,, Never. Only Gopher fans, got it? I figured that out pretty quickly on this board..

But I think i'm going to consult the guru 23 before i present that as fact..

Easy man, it was just a question. Just trying to fully understand what you were saying.

And I NEVER said the refs won or lost the game for anyone. Just said it was a brutally called game that was taken over by the refs and had absolutely no flow.

And for the record, it appears to be you that is incapable of having a conversation without getting butt hurt about it.

Good luck the rest of the season.

Nope not the case. Not butt hurt. I had that happen on different sites during the course of the night on multiple sites (which probably points to a different issue that I've got) and you happened to be the guy that I "flipped out" on. I've heard more than a few comments about the refs taking over the game and that's why the games were competitive and I started getting annoyed. But, it's still childish and I can go back to being a little bit mroe even keeled now. My bad.

For the record, I generally like the Gophers program a hell of a lot more than any of the other programs that are "leaving MSU for dead". MN has been trying, from all accounts, to help their in-state partners out as much as possible unlike those going to the NCHC. In fact, I've gained more respect for MN and tDon over the last year than I ever thought I would have. I have no ill will towards the Gophers and any statements about singling the Gophers out for anything negative are misplaced by our fellow posters.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

The officiating was so embarrassingly horrible, if I were Don Adam and Tim Walsh I would deny being a referree if asked by a drunk co-worker at the company Christmas party put on by their employer for their "real" job. That being said, I'm glad as H-E double hockey sticks they were as bad as they were. The Gophers won. Who knows? If Adam and Walsh performed competently, maybe MSU-M comes back and wins. Maybe their ridiculously horrible calls made the Gophers mad enough to buckle down and play harder. Maybe going on and off the power play for both teams interupted MSU-M's momentum they were building. Again, who knows?

Here's where Dirty's (expected) and FS23's (not expected, somewhat shocked actually) acusations of Gopher whining is completely off base. When you win the game, you get to complain about the officiating all you want. There are no Gopher sour grapes here because they won the game. When you're complaining about the officiating in a game you won, you're not making excuses for your team's failure, directly or indirectly. You're not diminishing the winning accomplishments of your opponent by blaming it all on the refs. You have the same right as a neutral observer watching the game as a hockey fan. In this case, Adam and Walsh were horrible. I believe they were horrible for both teams but I also believe their calls hurt the Gophers more than the Mavericks. Biased opinion? Probably, but I would think an unbiased and neutral observer would agree with me. After all, my opinion isn't influenced by my anger of a Gopher loss. ;)

Dirty & FS23, I get the whole "You're a sue so you hate the Gophers, and I'm a Gopher so I hate the sue" thing, but your finger pointing completely missed the target this time. Again, expected from Diry, somewhat shocked by FS23 who I consider to be a pretty reasonable and knowledgable sue fan. Not in this case though. Maybe you had just as bad a weekend as Adam and Walsh did. As for Dirty, you just keep proving that quantity of post count doesn't alway mean quality of posted material. Keep on keepin' on brother. ;)

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

SWEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!enough said. Bring on Mich. Tech.

Well said. I have no idea why this is still going on. Sure when the outcome of the game is still in question people may take the stance the refs are putting the game in question by their bad decisions. But no fan will complain about their team didn't win by enough. Pointing out poor officiating does not equate to that. End of story, move on. But I can see several of you have already started to hijack next weeks thread so I guess this may continue in some form.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

When you put three of them together between words like that, they're called elipses, not periods.

Oh, and mariucci, the word "bias" has two forms, you should learn which one to use if you're going to use them so frequently. One can have a bias, but then one is biased or one can be unbiased. One cannot be unbias, that makes no sense in that form. /grammar lesson

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Not a pretty sweep, but it is effective just the same. It was 4 points that this team needed desperately to set themselves up for the second half. I hope they can do the same this coming weekend against Tech. After that they will get a nice, little break(hopefully without a hangover) before they play the Holiday Classic. This was a great step being able to sweep MSU-M, who greatly impressed me this weekend. I was one of few that said the Mavs always have played the Gophers tough and I thought they would do so this past weekend. They did just that and kudos for them for coming into our house and showing no quit even after being down 3-0 on Saturday. I agree with the Wooger, the Mavs don't look like a 10th place team but that's how it goes sometimes. I agree with what Casey said on Saturday too. The Gophers' lackadaisical play in the 2nd period is what put the Gophers in a close 3rd period where the officiating kind of took over the game. If the Gophers had been able to put in an extra goal in the 2nd, we may not be having this whole reffing argument. That being said, the officiating was pretty brutal and it totally affected the game and changed the flow and it was frustrating. Sweep is a sweep and I'll take it. Hope for more of the same against Tech coming up this weekend as well.

It was a frustrating game from that standpoint. Seriously, I can't remember, outside of a game a few years ago when you guys swept the Gophers at Mariucci in the second half of a home and home, where fans were that vocal about the officials. It was brutal and it went both ways on the bad calls. But to single out Gopher fans is kinda ridiculous. You seem like pretty reasonable guy, but you can't think that the officiating didn't affect that game.

To sue fans in this thread about officiating: First off, WOW! LOL! Yes, I know the Gophers won which makes this a little interesting, but here is the difference....ready? Gopher fans clearly stated that the officials were bad for BOTH TEAMS. When sue fans complain about officials it turns into some sort of conspiracy and the officiating gets blamed for sue losses quite often. Because there is no way that perfect, nameless team from Grand Forks could ever get called for a penalty.

If you watched that game, there is no way you can fully criticize Gopher fans and Kato fans for commenting on the officiating. Have you ever been to GPL before when people start complaining about officiating? It is usually commenting on one or two iffy calls during the game where fans discuss whether or not it should have or shouldn't have been called and most fans are quick to say that it was not the call that cost the Gophers the game if it comes during a loss. Sue fans, on the other hand, will start message board threads about refs having a conspiracy against them. Please spare me this crap about Gopher fans complaining any more than other fans. It happens everywhere. Sue fans just do it waaaaaay more than anyone else. Its too bad the sue finally came out of their shell to play some hockey otherwise you might be hiding somewhere instead of trolling in a MSU-M/UM thread, Dirty.

I understand. I have gotten worked up and gone off on this board too. No worries. So you know, I never meant to imply that the bad officiating is what kept the games close. Mankato has some great talent. Love that freshman line. I just think the officials should have let these teams play a bit more instead of taking over the games (more Saturday than Friday) with what appeared to be a officiating battle.

This! I think the poor officiating hurt MSU as much, if not more, than the Gophers. And credit should be given to MSU fans for not using it as an excuse.
