Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Someone please, answer me this. How does one player (we'll call him player A) cross check another player (we'll call him player B), and then player A gets a penalty for cross checking and player B gets a penalty for embellishment. Makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever. It's either one or the other.

You can still embellish a hit. This is different from diving, however. Embellishment is just over-acting, while diving is pure acting. That being said, it was a BS call.

I didn't get to see the game tonight (waiting for the replay) - were the Gophers ANY better than last night?

I guess I agree. Just doesn't make much sense to me to call them both on the same play.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Why...just because a guy acts like he was shot doesnt mean the other guy didnt cross check him. Both penalties can be legit.

In this case though they were not. Lucia was going to kill Walsh or whatever his name is. Even Adam couldnt screw a call up that bad.

It worked out for the best though...the Gophers got mad and never looked back.

When they were discussing the Rau check it was obvious one of them (Walsh I believe) wanted to call a 5. If they had done that I think Donny might have jumped the boards

I call those "reputation calls". Meaning Player B has a reputation for embellishing. So an official may decide to call that in certain situations. See it happen all the time. Maybe Player B should try harder to get rid of the reputation of embellishment and he won't get those calls made against him.

Apparently Shep and McCloud were in the building last night, according to Jupiter (GPL). Interesting.

Rau had ONE embellishment call on him before this. If it takes ONE call to establish a reputation, that's ridiculous.

And I get the concept. You can be guilty of embellishing the hit even if the hit itself was a penalty. I just think the concept is stupid. Leave the embellishment calls for the legit hits that a player is trying to draw a call on.

Let's be honest here. The only reason Rau was called for embellishment is because there was some sort of officiating battle going on during the game. Lots of calls and makeup calls that completely ruined the flow of the game. Just a brutally called game, both ways.

Yeah it seemed the refs had their own little game against each other going on and our Hockey game happened to get in the way of that.

good thing goofer players do not have a reputation for diving...

Rau doesn't have that reputation.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Imagine the whining if the Gophers actually lost a game this weekend.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

It would look like a North Dakota TBD thread...sans the halos. :)

I fail to see how that works. Gopher fans constantly accuse Sioux fans of ref whining but they have complained more this week about the refs than North Dakota fans have complained this year about refs. Minnesota fans are definitely the ones wearing the halos this year.

Difference is, we're acknowledging the officiating was bad BOTH WAYS.

"Lots of calls and makeup calls that completely ruined the flow of the game" versus "the refs screwed us".

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Yep, I know. Gopher fans are perfect, that's why they are the ones who earned the halos this year.
