Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

Wow, I'm impressed that he signed his neg rep. Unfortunately for him, he has some pretty thin skin. IT WAS A JOKE.

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

No you're not.

Who knew your optimism would only last 5 seconds? Cripes Scooby, UNO isn't a bad squad that obviously started the game with more energy and is well coached. And unlike last year the team didn't fold when down by 4. No, there's no moral victory here it sucks that they lost, but this team has 10 freshmen and when the they learn to get over their allergic affliction to team defense could be quite good given the obvious improvements offensively.

btw blaming Kangas for that loss is the epitome of not seeing the forrest for the trees.

UNO has as many frosh as the Gophers. Stop using that excuse, k thx.

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

So that's what I get for trying to have a reasonable exchange - condescension? Thanks, buddy. I didn't cite their youth as an excuse but rather as a fact, of which there was a result. Both teams showed long stretches of looking young and less than ready and in the end UNO was able to get one over on the Gophers. However, I won't write the team off already nor refuse to see reasons for optimism.

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

I have to disagree with people who believe Freshman should be playing like Seniors out of the gate. Ask any coach in college hockey and they would say it takes upwards of two years before they get acclimated to the college game.

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

What criteria would you rather use Brent? Your own observations? What makes those internally and externally valid?

How about the defensive lapses that left Kangas out to dry? And they did that to Patterson last Saturday, too, btw. When you have an opposing player facing a wide open net because your d-guy didn't clear him out, that's not on Kangas. And I'm not the only one to bring these lapses up.

And believe me, Patterson will face the same problems. It's really a shame.

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

I'm in the boat of taking things one step at a time. I like that our offence seems to have figured out how to put the puck in the net (moreso than last year). They need to stay on task offensively, and at the same time figure out whats going on defensively. Give it a few more weeks and we will know what this team is made of.

I really think UNO will be a great fit into the WCHA as well. I have a feeling they will make a much bigger impact than people were giving them credit for last year. (refering to them as another Mankato/SCSU etc)

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

I'm not saying there isn't room for optimism. There is. I'm excited about the offensive output of this team. What I'm upset about is that UNO a team that faces as many questions as the Gophers comes into their barn and stomps a mudhole in them for two periods. They have as many freshmen. They're new to the WCHA. They played the road game. Etc, etc, etc.

Let me put it this way. When if EVER does Mariucci again become a difficult place to play? Cause not only is attendance way down, but it's about as easy a road victory as there is to get nowadays in the WCHA.

There is no excuse for not playing the whole game. And no excuse for losing that game the way they did. Period. Here's hoping this squad doesn't spend the ENTIRE season trying to figure that out like the last few have.

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

I agree with Brent, if we hadn't bobbled the puck around in our own zone that last goal wouldn't have happened.

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

Wow looks like tonite is starting out the same way as last nite. These freshman for the Mavs are impressive!

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

Solution is obvious: fire the coaching staff and poach UNO's.

What an abortion this team is.

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

Any optimism I had was completely unfounded. UMASS is terrible, that's what we've learned so far.

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

I've also learned that Rob McClanahan has a boner for Herb Brooks.

Just sayin'.

Congrats to UNO. You keep capitalizing on others' mistakes, and adapt to the WCHA reffing like you did from Fri to Sat, and you'll do well.

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

Devastating loss and WCHA start for the Gophers who from the drop did not match the intensity and playmaking of the UNO horses. The Gophers did not generate scoring chances, played poor in the D zone, did not block shots or clear the net and showed very little puck control. Some of the key guys on the Gophers didn't seem to have that extra step tonight.

Congrats to UNO, the better team won this series, although I don't think anyone anticipated the Gophers would be swept at home.

Looking ahead, it's obvious the Gophers need some serious D adjustments to get ready for SCSU. I've been saying for several seasons, Hill flat out cannot coach...period. He has an uncanny ability to ruin good, potential D talent. If you look at the regression rate in player performance on D over the last couple seasons it's frightening. If they don't do a 180 on D next weekend, Hill should get the long overdue boot. Unfortunately, the possibilities of that ever happening are the same as Brent dancing naked on his coffee table tonight.

You beat a team you're going to finish ahead of. Way to go. It's like beating Bowling Green, no one is impressed.

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

I thought this WCHA business was supposed to be hard!

You swept one of the weak sisters. Enjoy it while it lasts.

A lot of empty seats at the Mooch early in the 3rd. What gives "State of Hockey?"

Can't blame it on just corpies as the ends were barren. Can't blame it on high school games either as they haven't started.
