I suggest you get a second opinion because you received some bad information. I work with academic advisors all the time. Generally speaking, academic committee members are typically chosen by the candidate and are committed to help, not to psychologically intimidate the candidate. The general exam has two goals: 1) to establish that the candidate has a substantive understanding of the research and 2) to formulate the plan for the completion and defense of a doctoral thesis.
No, you're confused. Reread it again please. I'm responding to the misnomer that "numbers can and often do lie".
Reread my post again. Did I indicate it was typical for a college hockey message board?
You seem very confused and I'm not going to take anymore time on this to explain it again. Let's move on.
Mark Twain often used hyperbole for comedic emphasis, as is true in this case. Unless one understands that, the quote can also be misunderstood as truth. You certainly don't need my permission to use the quote.

I was responding to the incorrect reference you cited and providing the original context and meaning which to reiterate does not have anything to do with my original point. You apparently still don't get it. If you want to discuss the misapplication of statistics in my view both posters were actually incorrect.
By the way, you seem to be a avid Kangas fan which is ok with me. I am all for a goalie rotation. Are you ok?
