Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: Kangas Kool-Aid For All!

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: Kangas Kool-Aid For All!

If Kangas plays I would play him against Michigan St. He hasn't had great luck against Michigan.

Although it would be interesting to see if they played Kangas on Saturday, would the team play D in front of him? Seems like their worst nights have been Fridays, which coincidentally have been Kangas'. So we might find out if the team isn't prepped for Friday, or just not as inspired because of who is in nets. (Not that one weekend will tell us.)

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: Kangas Kool-Aid For All!

BTW, is it FSN for MSU and BTN for Mich like in recent years? I hope not, since I still don't get BTN and the only night I know I could watch is Sat.

Do the Gophs still have to lose someone to a knee injury, or are we covered, already having one?

FSN Friday night for MSU & BTN Sunday afternoon (4:30) for U-Mi. It's Sunday because the MN-Iowa football game is 2:30 Saturday

Gotta f-up the hockey program so that 40,000+ IOWA FANS can come up 35 and see them walk all over whats his name's "team"..... I really do hope that they pay the money to make the football program 1/2 way respectible again, then I wouldn't have as much of a problem with having the day off between games. Did they say that last year was going to be the only year this **** happend and that everything would be worked out to where this didn't happen?????

I was thinking the same thing. I think we are covered because of the injury to Budish although the ugly helmets may not see it that way because it was non-hockey related.

Won't happen in the future as it's the last of these. The problem is the FB game schedule is ruled by TV and the schools don't know it until the week of the game.

I think the dates are pretty much set in stone its the times that can change. Hockey is to blame for these because the football schedule is made a few years in advance.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: Kangas Kool-Aid For All!

From Gophersports

Senior right wing Mike Hoeffel was named the Red Baron® WCHA Offensive Player of the Week for Nov. 23.

Hoeffel began the year with three goals and three assists in his first five games, but had only one assist in the next five games. He broke out in a big way this past weekend at Michigan Tech, scoring four goals and adding one assist. Hoeffel scored twice in both games and all four of his goals came at even strength. On Friday, his first-period strikes gave Minnesota a 2-0 and 3-0 lead, respectively. On Saturday, he scored the Gophers' first goal of the game at the 3:09 mark and increased Minnesota's lead to 3-1 with a second-period tally. His lone assist came on Friday and was the primary game-winning assist on Jake Hansen's power-play goal. In his last four games at Michigan Tech, Hoeffel has six goals and two game-winning assists.

Hoeffel joins Taylor Matson, Nate Condon and Jay Barriball as being honored by the WCHA this year. Matson was the Offensive Player of the Week for Nov. 2, while Condon was named Rookie of the Week for Nov. 2. Barriball was the Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 12.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: Kangas Kool-Aid For All!

Don't have BTN so didn't see the game today, but see MN was outshot. Given that Patterson was pulled in his last start, what do we expect to see this coming week? (Back to Kangas Kool-Aid?) Looks like the lack of D on Fridays is a team thing, not a Kangas thing. I think from here on out, whichever goalie looks better on a weekend earns the right to get the Saturday start. Or better yet, Sunday!

Let's see em win 2 more going into the UMD weekend!

BTW, I may have a chance to be in the Cities on friday of UMD weekend. If I get standing room tics, even though it is the potentially #1 team in country, will it still be easy to find a couple open seats together with decent views?

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: Kangas Kool-Aid For All!

not sure since it's a premier game. Typically section 3 is for SRO. YMMV first come first serve.

I expect 50/50 duties.

This past weekend the general consensus was a pre-determined split duty, and then Patty shat the bed on Fri, and was reported to have the flu (so no playing on Sun). IMHO, I'd guess Patty on Fris and Kangas on Sats.

Lucia has shown no disposition towards 50/50. When Patterson got hot he rode him till he fell. Now Kangas appears to be hot so I expect Kangas to keep going until he falters.

It sure seems like it's the team who gets hot on Saturdays (or sunday in this case) and not withstanding last series against the cellar dweller, Patterson usually has not played the series opener. So the question remains does it really have to do with the goalie or is it just the entire team takes a full game to finally wake up and give some quality play. Just a thought...

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: Kangas Kool-Aid For All!

So did I miss it, or are people so apathetic about this team that no one has started a thread for the next series?

Thanks, I think, but I'm not sure what "YMMV" means. They had some section 3 listed as reserved? Not sure if they are still there.

I'll take apathy for 200, Alex.

I'll go with a sweep of the Landcows and then a 6-0 loss to tUMD the following friday.

Fri. blowout to #1 team isn't a tough call. Too bad it's not a Sat.-Sun. series. (Even against MSU, a sweep prediction from you seems out of character. Nippin' at the bottle a little early?)
