Senior right wing Mike Hoeffel was named the Red Baron® WCHA Offensive Player of the Week for Nov. 23.
Hoeffel began the year with three goals and three assists in his first five games, but had only one assist in the next five games. He broke out in a big way this past weekend at Michigan Tech, scoring four goals and adding one assist. Hoeffel scored twice in both games and all four of his goals came at even strength. On Friday, his first-period strikes gave Minnesota a 2-0 and 3-0 lead, respectively. On Saturday, he scored the Gophers' first goal of the game at the 3:09 mark and increased Minnesota's lead to 3-1 with a second-period tally. His lone assist came on Friday and was the primary game-winning assist on Jake Hansen's power-play goal. In his last four games at Michigan Tech, Hoeffel has six goals and two game-winning assists.
Hoeffel joins Taylor Matson, Nate Condon and Jay Barriball as being honored by the WCHA this year. Matson was the Offensive Player of the Week for Nov. 2, while Condon was named Rookie of the Week for Nov. 2. Barriball was the Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 12.
