Minnesota Gophers Off Season thread - 2016

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season thread - 2016

Was on a fishing trip this past week. Glad I didn't miss any actual hockey discussion. Vikings should be good this year.

I give SteveO credit for one thing - he's living rent free in the heads of many Fawks fans.

Not difficult to do. I tend to stay away from the trolling, but out of boredom, I cast the overused "Canadian players" bait into the Twins discussion and started a frenzy. Even real fish, with their small brains eventually learn to recognize an artificial lure if caught enough on it.

Twins were "supposed to be" improved this year. Too many years of Vikings disappointment to ever get too excited.

How was fishing? I went Friday and yesterday. One good trip, one poor.

We've been going to the same lake(s) up near Ely for 11 years, and this year's fishing ranks as one of poorest we've had. But the sunny-warm-calm weather was probably the best we've ever had, and the early spawn/ice-out was one of the earliest ever, so that pretty much explains why the walleye's were hard to locate and get to bite. Still fun though!

Ten Gophers. Vanek and Reilly didn't play. Still the most, though, I think.

Good to see Boyd transitioning well. Not surprising as he had the best shot on the team by his senior year.

Gophers hockey coach Don Lucia glad to have AD who 'actually knows where Mariucci is'
http://www.startribune.com/gophers-...o-actually-knows-where-mariucci-is/382305291/

Entering contract extension negotiations, the last paragraph bodes well for Don:

“I want to sit down with Don and find out where our program’s at, what’s changed,” Coyle said. “When I was here, they were going back-to-back national championships. And now with the Big Ten, and some of those things, I just want to get a feel from Don, what’s going on with his program. And what can I do to help Don and his program achieve at a high level.”

If you think about it, not too surprising. He was here during the period when Don was the guy. Also ADs typically like stability, and our other top coaches (Claeys, Pitino)have yet to prove themselves.

Agreed. Just a question of how long of an extension he's given. Also now with Goetz leaving, Coyle has more instability to deal with, and this could help Lucia.

I think he got jobbed on the Conn Smythe.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season thread - 2016

I had him at 49% after Crosby got the first assist, 45% as play went on, and it was all over when Crosby got the second assist. He needed to get a point yesterday to overcome the Crosby favoritism and didn't.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season thread - 2016

Bump....When is the draft (not that Goph fans have a lot to look forward to there)?

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season thread - 2016

Does anyone have a link to an article on Minnesotans taken in the draft? Seems like that is usually a next day automatic article in Cities papers, but couldn't find one.
