Minnesota Golden Gophers 2009-2010: Calmly Step Away from the Ledge

Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers 2009-2010: Calmly Step Away from the Ledge

Where are the negative Nancies? :D
Calculating MN's awful odds of getting home ice - they're basically zero.

MN has to win all four remaining games and then hope that CC sweeps UND and gets swept by Denver. That'd cap CC and UND at 29 points while MN would finish with 30 (I don't think MN would win a 3-way tie-breaker; they would only win a 2-way one with CC).

In other words, no way in H-----E------Double Hockey Sticks.

Won't work. If he plays two sports, both get charged for the scholly.

Not to mention it's physically impossible, hockey season starts before football even reaches its season halfway point.

it is more than physically possible, Football season is pretty much over end of November with just the bowl game in late Dec/early Jan which leaves over 1/2 the hockey season to go. and He will mostlikely be redshirted on the Football team as a freshman. After all that is pretty much what he does now..... State Football tourny ends Thanksgiving day......

Even in a three way tie with CC and UND, the Gophers would most likely lose to UND on the fourth WCHA tie breaker: If two or more teams are still tied after applying the provisions of (a), (b) and (c), the team having the greatest 'winning margin' during the regular season will have the higher rank. Winning margin = WCHA goals for during the regular season minus WCHA goals against, by a huge goal differential.

I think home ice is unrealistic. It's very likely that the upcoming series will be repeated in the first round. If the Gophers can win, win, win...they may climb back into the bubble. We'll [only] get by with a little help from our friends - Ringo

That didn't take long. I swear you're not happy unless you're miserable, Scooby. :D

They don't have to have home ice to win their first round series. If the Gophers finish the season at worst 2-2 without a blowout loss it will at least show some progress toward playing better hockey, meaning they should then have a chance against whoever they have to play. And no matter what happens they'd be likely to play the play-in game at the X anyway barring unforseen upsets in the 1st round.

But yeah, season's over. ;)

I have first round playoff tickets every year. It's getting old not being able to go. :o

They only need nine strategic wins...

So you're telling me there's a chance....;)

Thanks for putting CC well behind UW this last weekend. Too bad the BADgers are not firing on all cylinders right now. :(

Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers 2009-2010: Calmly Step Away from the Ledge

I think Kevin Wehrs must have read our discussion last week regarding slap shots vs. wrist shots from the blue line. For the first time I can remember, he actually wound up and unleashed a slap shot from just inside the blue line!

Of course, he's still Kevin Wehrs, so he didn't bother to realize the opposing player was already laying down to block the shot so when he shot it, the puck rocketed off the opposing player's shin pad leading to a breakaway goal for CC. :D

I love it when irony reigns supreme. ;)

Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers 2009-2010: Calmly Step Away from the Ledge

Fischer was awesome against CC. Hope to see that continue against other opponents.

Alt told the Pioneer Press in todays paper he for sure will play for the Gophers if he is drafted in the first two rounds of the upcoming draft. Otherwise, he will have to think over his hockey vs. football decision.

I hope he's not drafted in the first two rounds....
The last thing this program needs are more players who only view UofM hockey as a stepping stone. If you want to be a part of Minnesota's Pride on Ice, then come on. Otherwise.....

I thought of that argument while watching the Canadian's beat the Russians, where at least two of the goals were scored off wrist shots from the point by defensemen.

That was the game where the ENTIRE Russian team quit before the game even started, right?

I'm just sayin'. ;)
