Minnesota Golden Gophers 2009-2010: Calmly Step Away from the Ledge

Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers 2009-2010: Calmly Step Away from the Ledge

The more I think about the trade, the less it bothers me. Don't like them trading a prospect, but at least it wasn't a pick. Barker is a step up from Johnsson in my opinion, especially given his age. It would have been nice to get a later round pick as well, but oh well.

The only thing that stings are the reports that the Wild were concerned about his development at Minnesota. This is now officially a trend, and I don't like it one bit.

Not that I enjoy adding insult to injury, okay, I do.......but I believe they said very concerned. In fact, here's the exact quote:

The Wild, I am also told, was very concerned about Leddy's development at the U.

Ouch! Guess that's good for other WCHA schools and their recruiting efforts. ;)

Which is funny considering he is a freshman right out of high school and missed 6 weeks due to a broken jaw.

It also doesn't mean they need to be. This imho is a mole hill and not a mountain.

I am just starting to wonder how many times officials of NHL teams can say things like this before it hurts recruiting.

Kids leave early at every big program in the country, for a variety of reasons and opposing recruiters will always use every trick in the book they can. This is a small blip and obviously recruiting hasn't been the problem - at least not with respect to their ratings. I'd worry far more about the results on the ice than some supposed comment quoted in a blog.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers 2009-2010: Calmly Step Away from the Ledge

Leddy traded by the Wild today and Russo has posted that the Wild were concerned with his development at Minnesota.

Double whammy. Leddy probably isn't going to be around much longer anymore (that's the speculation on GPL), and the Wild have already given up on their number one pick and it's the hometown kid that everyone wanted to see them take and have it work out.

What I think this really says is the kid isn't that good and they don't want to have to wait 3-4 years to see if he develops. He's not ready for the AHL. Wasted draft pick.

No longer a TUC after tonight. Let's keep it up boys.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers 2009-2010: Calmly Step Away from the Ledge

I posted this in the Fire Lucia thread.

Star Tribune said:
"It's just the general situation there," Thompson said of the struggling Gophers. "They've had a poor year with their team, and the whole team. Every guy on that team just looks, there doesn't look like there's a passion to them.

"It's nothing particular against Nick. He was one of their best guys, maybe their best guy the night I saw him in St. Cloud. But it seems collectively, it was a disappointment to watch them."

It was a disappointment to watch them? Why? Come on Thompson why? You know dang well why.

How many years are left on Lucia's contract? This off-season Lucia better be working his tale off or next year will get more ugly.

I hope Dean didn't buy his house in Nebraska-Omaha . . .

This is really interesting. . . :D

If I was Don I would be so livid right about now. I think he should defend himself a little bit and break the code of silence.

There are a lot of former Gophers playing in the NHL right now that played for Don. The man has two national Championships for crying out loud.
