Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey: 2011-2012 Season Thread

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey: 2011-2012 Season Thread

Really was impressed with Emily West. She is a very consistent player who always seems to be in the right place at the right time.
West is coming back after knee surgery, so she's trying to knock off some rust and adjust to sophomore line mates whom she is just learning. She's had a 40+ point season in the past, and if she can get back to that level, it'll add another dimension.

Wish some of your games were on TV.
They usually wind up on the Big Ten Network a few times in the second half once football is done dominating the channel. Most of those are tape-delayed.

I appreciate your comments throughout the weekend. I still expect Harvard to take a run at that second spot in the ECAC behind Cornell, that to date, nobody has really claimed.

Just want to say to the Minnesota fans that you have a great team and it was fun to watch them play. Really was impressed with Emily West. She is a very consistent player who always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Your D is big and fast and the way you transition the puck from defense to offense is outstanding. Certainly faster than any team in the ECAC save perhaps Cornell.

Best of luck the rest of the way. Wish some of your games were on TV.

I only saw the Sunday game, but I thought Davis played an outstanding game (and obviously Terry had her groove going too, with a hat trick in the first period). Tough to beat a team that can throw 4 lines worth of goal generation at you one after another!

Speaking of tv, as part of North Dakota's deal with Fox College Sports both games of the Sioux/Gopher series this weekend will be on Fox College Sports Central.

I think that makes it available to Mpls. / St. Paul metro area comcast customers as part of an additional cost sports channel package.

The 3-6-1-1 :D thing is real bad idea Brooky. Karma can be a powerful thing. A real hockey guy would never dream of doing something like this. Good luck with it, but I'd pull that down if I were you. :)

Maybe you should educate yourself on the UM / UMD programs and fan rivalry before you speak of something you obviously know nothing about...a rather common occurrence. Remember...I'm nothing more than an artificial hockey guy. Karma...pffft. If UMD beats the U of M next time around I won't be blaming it on Karma. You can. :)

Thanks so much for your valued  input.

I've seen it, and it usually starts with you. Yes...a common occurrence. The hockey guy thing was just a poke. Take a pill. Just wondering, does your fan rivalry allow you to express this type of opinion at the games?

Thanks. I've got the Big Ten Network on my FiOS subscription so I'll be sure to be on the lookout for Gopher games.

If Bellamy can continue to improve and our second line can find some scoring consistency, we may challenge for the second spot. So far it doesn't seem like there is a clear-cut favorite to take the spot behind Cornell so why not us? :)

Anywhere I want.

You've seen it! Wow...maybe I should reconsider then... Or you could attempt to wrap your tiny little mind around the frequently expressed lack of regard I have for your opinion.

Sorry man, I almost forgot about you. Anywhere you want.....nice. :)

Anyone who has that channel -> I would preciate if someone is willing to record both games and mail DVDs to me. I will cover all expenses when I land to Minneapolis this season.

Channel 263 in the northern suburbs.

I would like to help Habs but I do not currently own a functioning DVDR recorder.

A little late...but posting for it's spot on quoted observation from #10 after her fine effort in game two of the series.

http://www.mndaily.com/2011/11/28/gophers-sweep-no-9-harvard-boston

“My line played really well this weekend,” Terry said. “We knew we needed to start contributing more and we’re finally starting to do that after this weekend.”

I feel we'll need more of the same at The Ralph. Keep it going!

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey: 2011-2012 Season Thread

Also really great to see #17 getting her old mojo back. :) Going at North Dakota with "two No. 1 lines" plus a strong D corps and netminder might be too much for them to handle.

Indeed...and goaltending will be large. I don't believe I've ever witnessed a netminder from any team...including several of outstanding ability successfully stymie the twins on all their quality scoring chances. They're lethal obviously...but what the heck, I could stand to witness that very thing this weekend.

Yes, I know there's much more to beating the Sioux than just containing Mo & Jo...but to do so is a big step in that direction. UND has so many more O weapons than any time prior. The line match-ups in this series should be very interesting.

http://www.fightingsioux.com/ViewAr...03&DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=205340411&DB_OEM_ID=13500

this looks to be a great series as nd will come out at home (undefeated at home, and #1 attendance) trying to prove that they belong, and minn will try to show their title contender status and make up for 1/4 wins on the sioux last year. the teams for both sides this year are noticeably different and I expect very tight games.
my prediction is a split.

The Sioux's certainly does have improved depth all the way through their roster this year but, lest we forget, so does the Gophers! :) A real key, I think, will be how our 3rd does against their 3rd, assuming that's how Idalski tries to keep them matched up the majority of the time. We SHOULD have the edge there, and we should also have an advantage when our second line (if you want to call it that) goes up against their "Lam-less" line, again assuming that's how they get matched up most of the time.

But you're right, "the line match-ups in this series should be very interesting".

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey: 2011-2012 Season Thread

Quick question: does anyone know of a single-sesaon record for points on one line? I know lines change from game to game but for the majority....
JLam-MLK-Karvinen already have 102 points between the 3.

That's a tidy sum for sure...with plenty of time to accumulate more. Here's one line they're chasing. No idea what / who top scoring line is in NCAA history.

## Player POS YR | GP G A PTS

20 Natalie Darwitz F JR | 40 42 72 114

7 Krissy Wendell F JR | 40 43 61 104

18 Kelly Stephens F SR | 40 33 43 76

That may be it in NCAA history, but the Mleczko/Botterill/Shewchuk line put up huge numbers for Harvard back in 1998-99. The problem with many lines is that they don't play together all of the time, like the Knight/Decker/Duggan line last year, where Knight was often on another line.
