Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey: 2011-2012 Season Thread

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey: 2011-2012 Season Thread

I hope that you guys get the chance to read Coach McCloskey's blog...if I could use a computer, i would put in the link but the address will be at the end....I totally enjoy Brian's honesty and understanding of hockey, let alone the women's game, so in reading his comments about our team and the classroom technique's of the Gophers, you are right Curtain man, you folks will have a great ride this year.....phenominal team! Try and read Brian's blog and see why we all enjoy the game's highs and lows......it's what makes us better.....good luck you Gophers you!

Appreciate the heads up on the coaches blog zoofer. Great reading!

A little humor from Tailgate 48 on YouTube via Facebook. For some reason, cameramen always shoot a lot of footage of Baylee, even when she's not involved in the action. ;)

I'm sure Baylee would volunteer to do a few interviews if it would help get BTN to broadcast a few of her team's games on TV. :)

Wish more coaches could or would post material like this. Great reading. It's so easy to forget that the life of a D-I player is so much more than a weekend series. After watching them again this weekend, I would say the Gophers are not a good but a great team and have depth. They will be tough to beat as long as they get good consistent defensive play and Goal-tending. That broke down last year out East but no signs of that this year. It will be interesting to see how New Hampshire rebuilds. Woods recruited the majority of these current Gophers so it will be interesting to see if he can replicate this kind of talent in Durham.

“We haven’t had that much success on the road in the past couple years,” Räty said, “but I think this weekend is going to be the weekend that we show what we’ve got and how good we are.”

I hope all of her teammates have that exact same attitude!

P.S. Any clue as to what the new scoreboard will look like? Sure would be  if it's capable of showing video replays in HD!

Coach Frost showed a picture of it at the recent Chalk Talk. It had four sides with video capability, although the weak link will likely be the camera -- I think it is just one at this point -- which I believe is just what the team uses for video review.

I sure hope quality replays are a feature...but the limited camera angle(s) will probably be a bit of a hindrance.

I just pray the new installation doesn't include one of those goofball cable mounted cameras zinging around the bowl, stopping, focusing on fans and challenging them to "DANCE" à la the Wild at the X. :)

Player pictures with bios...minus any silly mugging would also be nice. ;)

I'm okay with player pictures during intros and intermission. When the game is underway, I'd rather that they just showed the game. That goes for replays of action from five minutes earlier that resulted in a routine save on a shot from the boards as well. Replays of goals are always appreciated, both immediately after and as an intermission recap.

Over on the mens side at Mariucci they have a fundraiser going for a few upgrades, one of which is the scoreboard. It's video quality was fine by 1993 standards but then again we were still using VCR's at that time. I hope the quality at Ridder is really good, and then Mariucci follows suit.

After reading this preview, I think I'm going to drink heavily tomorrow and try and convince myself that the Crimson have a prayer of winning this weekend. Does not look good for the Lady Crimson.

With all due respect to your team's success this season, barring a UM meltdown (dare I mention?) like back in March in the NCAA Quarterfinals, your theory and proposed solution would appear to be quite sound. This is not the same UM team...but then, strange things can and do often happen.

This video in post #430 in the following link to an old thread might help blunt the anticipated pain...

Do Harvard fans take solace in BC's success? If so, then college sports rivalries within Boston work differently than I'd have thought.

Oops! Good one...thanks for the polite correction. Funny, somehow I had mistakenly gotten the impression that UM was travelling to BC this weekend...close enough geographically but no cigar...and after posting it I thought to myself..."I thought Skate was a Harvard fan...but maybe he holds dual fanship", he wouldn't have to drive very far...then the phone rang and that was that.

I guess "Crimson" should have clued me in...but it was not to be.

So, please disregard my post and my apologies if the video caused you any unnecessary pain.

As I've noted before about funds, we've been looking to get that same video scoreboard at UNH now for years, but since it costs about $1.5 million, as I've been told, that is a pipe dream for us now....even having Adam Sandler, a NH homeboy, wearing a Wildcat hockey T-shirt in his movie, and we can't somehow get ALUMNI to help us......pitiful no? Not a rip on Sandler, just wicked frustrating!
