Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

Not so much for Wisconsin, but yes it is unusual for the Gophers to bring in just two Minnesota skaters (Tianna Gunderson being a late addition).
Last year's senior class was similar -- Brausen and Stenerson from Minn., and Davis, Gillanders, Kessel, Terry, and Turgeon all recruits from outside the state. Same with the class two years earlier, where Kortum and Frischmann were in state, but Bozek, Jalosuo, and Räty were not.

Interesting that only 2 /10 are committed to Minnesota and Wisconsin (1 each), with 4 going to the east coast. A tad unusual isn't it?

Wisconsin is actually just getting back into the mix with Minnesota players. Currently, the only Minnesotan on the roster is Karley Sylvester who is a senior. According to another thread on this site, there are two more Minnesota recruits that would be coming in two years from now.

On the team right now, Minnesotans to total, by class, you have:
Seniors 4/4
Juniors 2/5
Sophomores 7/7
Freshmen 3/5 (includes Peters, redshirt freshman)
Total: 16/21

So it does vary quite a bit by class, but you'd certainly have to say that this year's team is pretty Minnesota heavy.

Unless I was Eeyore -- then I'd just argue with you for the heck of it. :p

Maple Grove at #3...so maybe we'll get a chance to see them and the most recently listed Gopher recruit in St. Paul. I'll have to take a look at their section...I'm unfamiliar.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

Section 4AA progressing as expected with a final you could have predicted about halfway through the season I think

It's Hill Murray and CDH battling for a trip to St. Paul and the Xcel Energy Center. Should be a good final that either could win.

The former Gopher husband and wife have done well at CDH thus far.

I never thought I'd say this but...Go Hornets!

6AA semifinals tonight at Parade...should be good games.

I plan to head over there tonight. I count at least 9 D1 commits that will be on the ice, including:

Katie McMillan, Penn State, Minnetonka
Kelsey Crow, Penn State, Minnetonka
Presly Norby, Wisconsin, Minnetonka
Kippen Keller, Gophers, Minnetonka

Sophia Shaver, Wisconsin, Wayzata
Paige Sorenson, Merrimack, Wayzata

Grace Bizal, Boston College, Hopkins
Corbin Boyd, Minnesota State, Hopkins

Taylor Wente, Gophers, Maple Grove

I could well be missing a couple others...

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

Ended up between the dads of Dahlquist and Boyle and they seemed like really great guys & we had a lot of fun poking fun of the two colleges they are going to & the one they are not. Dads both seemed to be well grounded except one thought this years EP team could beat the NCAA champ from the mid-00's. I think he may be a bit shocked at the level of play in the WCHA.
...and shocked by the Hornets (again) and the level of play in section 2AA. Way to go TW! :)

Barn Burners all around in section title games apparently.

I had hoped to see Wayzata in St. Paul myself. :( The Skippers prevail once again. Time for me to get behind the Pioneers of course. Keep that 2AA title in the east...where it belongs. ;)

Saw that & hopped over here to say something similar. The team that could have beaten the '05 Gophers can't deal with Edina. But, like I mentioned in the national team thread, I never hold a player responsible for their parents peculiarities. Given that neither is going to MN I suppose they should get used to disappointment ;)

No way I can support the Pioneers, sorry or the Wasps either. No team wearing green unless it is Roseau or Coleraine.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

No particular rooting interest other than seeing the Gopher recruits in action. Emily Brown for Blaine, Kippen Keller for Minnetonka, and Taylor Williamson for Edina. All have been playing well in the sectional playoffs so looking forward to seeing them in the tournament.

One of them probably plays for the title though. We all know how unpredictable state tournament match-ups are...but my brackets in the annual friendly office pool will have one of them in the final. Haven't completed that yet. ;) I'm enthusiastically opposed to an all west metro final though so...

I'm an old East side kid myself so I get that opposition to West metro. Sadly, hockey is now pretty much all about the money. Wanna predict the tourney field? Look at income levels. There are a few teams from up North that may not fit that stereotype & still rely on 'rink rats' but it is seems to me that it is the well off districts vs the hockey factories at tournament time.

always cracks me up when somebody ribs someone and thinks it is funny, but when the ribbed ribs the ribbie, the ribbie takes it serious and can't understand the joke
