Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

The AA bracket is out as well.

11 am - #2 Edina vs Rosemount
1 pm - #3 Lakeville South vs Hill-Murray
6 pm - #1 Minnetonka vs Elk River-Zimmerman
8 pm - #4 Coon Rapids vs North Wright County
I'm not too familiar with players in the A bracket outside of Warroad...but there's a bunch of excellent players among the AA entrants. Gopher fans should find the AA action particularly entertaining!

I am surprised that the section 4AA champion is NOT seeded. If the recent level of play from their best player continues Hill-Murray could make those seedings go topsy-turvy.

I thought 4AA had four strong teams, any of which could easily have won the section. However, I'm not sure they had any team of the caliber that they've turned out in recent years. Watching Stillwater vs Roseville, I was struck by how much less scoring punch there was in that game than we've come to expect in that rivalry. H-M can't be too upset with where they were placed; Minnetonka is on the other side of the bracket, and the Pioneers don't have to open against Edina.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

I went to the Minnetonka/BSM game last night. This was the second time I've seen the Skippers this year and on both occasions I came away totally impressed with their team defense. They are VERY tough to get good scoring opportunities against and they take better care of the puck in their own end than just about any high school team you'll see. Their ability to break out of their zone is also excellent and this makes it difficult to get any sustained offensive pressure against them. Offensively, there certainly are any number of higher octane teams out there, but you wonder how prolific they'd be scoring wise if they had to go up against teams that defensively are as good as Minnetonka. We'll see how they do but based on what I've seen I think they have to be regarded as the tournament favorite.

The officials seemed to take turns favoring one team, then the other. I am thankful that they didn't call a penalty every time a Stillwater player fell and their fans howled -- I thought I was watching a game at the DECC. ;) While there were questionable calls in that game, Stillwater did have a great chance with a late 4-on-3 and even a few seconds of 5-on-3 to tie it up. IMO, not pulling the goalie sooner was a coaching gaffe. Sometimes, coaches get too consumed with hollering at the officials and forget to coach tuque team.

And watching Coach Scheid throw his clipboard and papers on the ice after the game was priceless ... A real class act.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

Hate to say it but, other than the chance to see some excellent individuals, the Class A quarterfinal games (today and this evening) are not the most competitive or best-played hockey. Tomorrow's AA quarters and the A semi's should be much better.

I would have liked to watch Breck play...wasn't aware of the available video at the time. Per class A, Warroad should be a fun team to watch. They should be playing AA IMO.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

Today's AA scores:

Edina 6, Rosemount 0
Hill-Murray 4, Lakeville South 3 (Gopher recruit Hannah Brandt with a goal and two assists)

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

I went to the games this afternoon, and I've been watching them online this evening. All I can say is that I am optimistic about the Gopher's future!

Ramsey - check
Bona - check
Brandt - check
(and I've seen Lorence enough to know she's a big check!)
