Dylan Steman made Cedar Rapids' 25-man roster, so just to recap where the recruits will be this year:
Evan Anderson - Penticton (BCHL)
Tyler Heinonen - Muskegon (USHL)
Jake Kauppila - NAHL/BCHL?
Chris Leibringer - Muskegon (USHL)
Joel L'Esperance - Tri-City or USNTDP?
Kent McPherson - Fisher 135
Michael Neville - Lincoln (USHL)
Joe Schuldt - Sioux Falls (USHL)
Dylan Steman - Cedar Rapids (USHL)
Reid Sturos - Nanaimo (BCHL)
Jake Kauppila - Coulee Region (NAHL)
Joel L'Esperance- Tri City- (USHL)
Do we know these for sure? They are the most likely destinations but do we know that the BCHL is out for Kauppila and the USNTDP is out for L'Esperance?
Yes for Steman and Schuldt. I spoke directly to Schuldt and Steman made the recently listed 25 man roster for Cedar Rapids.Kauppila will be in Coulee next year and i wasn't aware the USNTDP was an option for L'Esperance. Are you sure this was an option for him?
Also, are you sure Schuldt and Steman will be in the USHL next year?

thanks for the update. Mel should send jimmy davis to juniors for a year. I see him as a healthy scratch again this year.

Davis needed at least one year in juniors, probably 2. It is way too big of a jump to from Michigan high school hockey to WCHA hockey. In order to pull it off the player would have to be simply elite, and even then I'd expect some growing pains. Even in Minnesota, it is rare to find a Rau or a Leddy that can successfully make that jump and 95% of the players that can are snatched up by the Gophers.
Exactly. I think Mel had sticker shock when he first took a look at the lack of depth back on the blue line after he was hired.
When Seigo, Nielsen, and Brown graduate this spring...
One thing to note is that if the player goes back to junior, he can transfer anywhere he likes after that season. NMU had a similar situation with goalie Reid Ellingson, who played a handful of games as a true freshman, then went to play for Green Bay (USHL). He could have gone somewhere else if he wished. It's a calculated risk. Thanks for the update. Mel should send Jimmy Davis back to juniors for a year. I see him as a healthy scratch again this year.
not really because he isn't going to play much unless the offseason program & time have really helped him.One thing to note is that if the player goes back to junior, he can transfer anywhere he likes after that season. That's why he went out and landed Sweeney too.
I don't think lost playing time is the risk. I think what davyd83 meant is you risk losing the player to another NCAA team the following season if he really improves, because the player doesn't have to return to the same NCAA program he left.not really because he isn't going to play much unless the offseason program & time have really helped him.
and Im saying who cares, he doesn't appear to be very useful as he currently is, hopefully the offseason helped. Maybe it ends up like Schepke did, so what. Should we continue to give him some portion of a scholarship to ride the pine or should we let him go develop even if it means he goes elsewhere?I don't think lost playing time is the risk.
