Ummmm, no. I loved that style of black jersey. It is one of my favorites. Better than the piano dog before it by about 100 times.Would people agree though that these are a step ahead of quite the ugliest jerseys in tech history before these.
That would be the ugliest one. Piano dog is cool in sort of an old school way, but not cool enough to be the main logo on a jersey.Ummmm, no. I loved that style of black jersey. It is one of my favorites. Better than the piano dog before it by about 100 times.
It's all cost savings and preserving the trademark. One patch design vs two patch designs. Might also explain why it seemed like the team was chasing its own tail all those years. The dogs weren't pulling the same direction.they should have done like the Army does with the American flag on soldiers shoulders, reversed it so the dog was facing forward on both sides.
I was going to make a similar joke but decided not to, glad someone was willing to thoughIt's all cost savings and preserving the trademark. One patch design vs two patch designs. I agree, mainly because it had never been done before. Every other jersey since the dawn of the team had horizontal arm stripes and horizontal body stripes. Anything new is good. Now if they just could have put the logos on correctly for the first set, that would have been even better. I guess when you're only winning 10 games a season, you don't ahve the option to just reject the whole set and send them back. For as tight as a university controls their image (and at an engineering school no less) you would think someone would tell the manufacturer what the correct angle of the cresting is supposed to be. When you look at one at a time, you might not notice, but when they are side by side it is laughable.Ryan J
I will wade in with an analysis of the new jerseys (for how little worth it might be):
I think Mel achieved two major things with the three jerseys.
1. The jerseys are something completely different than anything they have worn since the MacInnes era. This is a new era, one in which will hopefully be long and highly successful. It sets a new tone. Additionally, the jerseys are quite typical in design of an academic institution like Cornell, Boston U, Michigan, and on and on (as has been aforementioned in other posts). I would imagine that this academic look was agreeable to the university - especially with the school name across the front in large, and on the back, along with the school seal on the shoulder.
It also seems to be a great compromise in getting rid of that rotten awful piano toothless Penguins ripoff once and for all. It might be the school's logo and trademark, but there's no excuse in placing a simply horrible and outdated ripoff logo on a jersey just for the sake of having a logo. In this case, no logo on the front (or anywhere else) is an improvement over the geriatric feeble husky head. A great logo to use would be the old school leaping side profile of a husky that use to be on the wall at I believe Sherman Gym years and years ago. That leaping dog could go where the front number is between Michigan and Tech.
2. The third jersey obviously recalls the glory days (especially the 70s), and still gives many alumni their desire for an old school jersey. This allows everyone to forget the lean years and remember the legendary years with regards to jerseys. This is a great move.
Overall, the jerseys are not a risk for the university (as the university "sees" it), and they establish the Pearson era with the players and the community. I do believe the design resembles a few of Michigan's jerseys with the arching "MICHIGAN" - and is probably due to Shield's (and Pearson's and Muckalt's) influence. Not to mention that NHL teams like Dallas are now using similar designs. The cool thing is, this Michigan Tech lettering on the front aligns with the style of old Michigan Tech jerseys from before MacInnes. I think that is kind of neat, whether that was the intent or not.
Finally, all three jerseys are simple, and simple is always better. How many iconic teams in hockey or football have simple uniforms - they are memorable and that's why they are iconic! Jerseys that have crazy stripes and bizarre color schemes, or just too many colors, are just busy and look like something out of a Jackson Pollock painting.
With these three simple jerseys that reject the designs of the lean years, Mel has taken another step in exorcising the demons of a losing culture and building towards resurgence.
There would sure be alot of crying into beer going on at the DT on Saturday night if that were to happen.I'll add an amen to that too! Clean simple new tradition. Can't to sweep the Gophers this Fall!!
After you've seen the same thing for decades... yes they are. Even the other memebers of the original six manage to change it up once in a while. Were they all fan favorites? Did they all become the new standard? No - but at least they put something different out there to change it up.is the winged wheel or the Olde English D boring?

I love steak and chicken, but that doesn't mean I want to have it for dinner 365 days a year. Sometimes a salad is a nice change of pace. I'm not saying we have to gut tradition. I'm cool with the gold Huskies jersey and ONE of the black or white jerseys. But I've had my fill of the "steak and chicken" script Huskies. It was time for a salad with at least one of the jerseys.
Multiple people here are saying these new jerseys are a break from the "recent history of bad hockey". Really? Let me remind you that they wore the Piano Dog for about a decade. What about the other 20+ years since JM stepped down... yep, the "Huskies" script jerseys. I'll even go a step further - First three years in the Piano Dog jerseys (1993-96) = 45 wins, not exactly horid hockey by MTU standards.
If you want something new to break from the past, then make it new, not a remix of what we've already had for decades. What's done is done, I'm just saying they could have gone further and really made a statement other than a *yawn*. I still want the new jerseys, but I wanted more.

That yellow Bruins jersey is so ugly, it should be used to wipe asses.Four of those seven jerseys are throwbacks (Blackhawks, Habs, Habs, Leafs) to an old design already worn by the team previously. As for the Bruins, Bruins, and Rags jerseys: Lady Liberty is the only good looking jersey of that bunch. The first Bruins jersey is just a ginormous logo of the shoulder crest, and the second one was their "we need a third jersey for the sake of third jerseys" design.
