MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

The Alaska Anchorage AD state the the WCHA voted unanimously to extend invitations to Miami and Notre Dame. Here's the quote from UAA AD Steve Cobb in the Anchorage Daily News and a link to the article.

"At our meeting in April we voted to extend an invitation to Miami and Notre Dame," Cobb said, referring to a pair of CCHA teams. "That passed with 100 percent of the vote. Nobody said they were unhappy. We left the April meeting and basically some of them contacted Notre Dame and Miami and said, 'Don't take the WCHA invitation, we're going to invite you to join our super league.'

I was already aware of his quote when I posted.

Second there will most likely be a number of changes in stages. Some really smart people are working on this so have patience.

I have a question though for Tech fans, would you be in favor of non con games with any of the abandoner teams. Specifically UMD? personally I am not, but I thought I'd ask the question. How about the big ten?

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

I'd take a "home"-and-home with Wisconsin, where Tech's "home" game is at the Resch in GB. I would play MN or MI in their barns anytime, if they wanted to schedule us.

I'm fine with playing Duluth if they want to - it's a short bus trip and they didn't orchestrate this crap. We have almost nothing to gain from playing a non-con series with DU at Magness (and they wouldn't want to schedule us anyway), so no I wouldn't. I'm indifferent towards the rest.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

I'm not against anything from WI and MN. I don't think they had a choice in this... once PSU said they'd have hockey they were screwed. The BHHC that's another story. Screw them all, but I'd miss playing Duluth, some of my youngest memories of hockey are being terrified in the DECC and Maroon loon.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

Barry Alvarez and WI pushed hard for the B1G. It was MN who tried to hold back.

You don't think the B1G would have forced them either way? Barry or not... PSU is the one to blame. The B1G plays together when they have 6. No denying that.

I don't blame PSU for starting a team up. That was awesome. I blame the B1G Mistake making a conference just because there were finally 6 BT teams in play.

But that is what they do... 6 Teams = league. I feel bad for the fans of those teams that actually like to travel to watch hockey if the weekday schedules are actually true. That is just terrible.

I know that is what they do. And it's terrible. It doesn't have to be automatic (as far as I know anyway); it's an option to take. I would have declined that option, at least at the start. See how things pan out.

And if/when weekday series happen....* that. We're not Boston (city, not team) where a dozen teams are half hour away at most. This is the midwest. Chances are, you're making a weekend trip out of a road series.

Couldn't agree with you more :) I just hope the BTN doesn't force it.

Agreed.

Related: as some of you may know, there was a wedding in Houghton over the July 4th weekend. This conversation took place:

Girl: So, when did you drive up?
Me: Yesterday (Friday, from Minneapolis).
Girl: And you're going home when?
Me: Tomorrow (Sunday).
Girl: Um, that's a long drive for such a short stay. That's rather harsh, isn't it?
Me: We're hockey fans. That's a normal weekend trip for a road series. We're used to it, that's what we do.

:D

Disgruntled Tech fans: a treat is on the way from yours truly.

ETA: Or it was, until Windows Movie Maker accidentally the whole video. I hope the maker of that software gets chloroformed and locked in a car trunk just like Caylee Anthony.

I would never schedule another game with any of the BHHC teams or Wisconsin. I'd only schedule MN because it is pretty obvious that they had no choice in any of this.

I'm sure they will shed the appropriate tears.

If you want to "test drive" this scenario... become a Wildcat fan for the next two years. :D

Thank you for telling us something we already know, you must feel awesome about being so smart.

Now move along and bother someone else.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

inspired by the UAH thread... I'd enjoy watching a Northern CHA and Midwest CHA. Ours would include Tech, NMU, LSSU, Bemidji and the Alaskas, with maybe a couple more Michigan/MN schools tbd... Alabama would join with Mankato, BG, FSU etc.

The first conference is solid, but that southern conference is CHA 2.0

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

There has been some discussion of auto-bids, and them being yanked from the WCHA and CCHA if they don't have six teams. Based on how long the CHA operated without six teams and kept one, I don't see any reason why the WCHA and CCHA don't get exemptions for as long as they need them. If not, then the BI6 Mistake and the "Mess of the West" can donate their auto bid to the WCHA and CCHA. Since they all think they were too good to stay, they can play their way into the tourney with their overall records or sit home and think about what they did to college hockey in the name of their own greed. I figure a five year probationary period with no auto-bid to make sure they are a stable, viable conference would be a fair penalty for striking out on their own. Afterall, we can't just be handing out NCAA autobids like candy to any six teams who say they are a "conference".
