Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

I'm not too confident that the Final Five could survive at the X without the Gopher, Sioux, and Badger fans to drive ticket sales.

Resch Center is definitely a better size for this conference. The main concern is scheduling with UW-Green Bay's bouncyball team and the Gamblers.

Gamblers would be the most flexible, UW-Green Bay is probably likely on the road by that point.

Chances are the F5 wouldn't be in St Paul every year even WITH UND/DU still in the WCHA.

What a shame for this to happen to such a wonderful sport.

It is a new landscape, now Tech must do its best to win games and be the best program that it can. Continue to put emphasis on player development and if Mel can put some players in the NHL, they can survive....

I'm sick just a little. and I feel dirty. I spent the evening with (shudders) two Miami alum. God forgive me.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

I think Green Bay would be pretty good depending on the financial deal. I'd be surprised if BWG stays in hockey but they might if they can get some non con games with miami and ND. I think it would behoove the leftovers to pursue linking with the remains of the ccha. I don't see atlantic hockey as being a possibility.

ND hands might be tied after next week too. Personally they have more to gain in the east, even with the drawbacks. Going west for them doesn't make sense.

All the leftover teams will have to work closely together, but it can be done. There will have to be something innovative happen fairly soon I would think.

So at least the official spin is positive.

Welcome to the CCHA. ;) Again.

Or is it that the WCHA is adopting LSSU and NMU as a homecoming for a former team and to the child school of MTU?

That is what I'd like to see, but not if the CCHA doesn't pull in a few teams to stay alive as well. I really really think both leagues need to keep the autobids.

I'm interrupting our regularly scheduled kvetching to note that if you look on page 2B of today's DMG (print only), you'll find a brief about a certain Nelson, B.C. native recording his second career hole-in-one.

And if you didn't think I hammed the ace report up a little bit, then you don't know me very well.

Print only? Is it on the site at all? Most of us don't live up there still :)

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

We don't typically put briefs on the web.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

So if I have this correct, the WCHA, by unanimous vote of it's member institutions, attempted to pull a greasy deal and poach Miami and Notre Dame from the CCHA. Now the other half of that unanimous vote is upset because their greasy deal got greased by a greasier deal, right?

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

I think the biggest part of this I find disappointing is that UMD is going with... UND, DU, CC... meh. But I like Duluth...

That is not quite correct, though it could be interpreted that way. I don't think the schools involved is accurate and I don't think the WCHA asked anyone to join though they did say membership had opened to schools that might show interest. Who showed interest is an open question, but these two is inaccurate regardless of the MO.
