MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

It's like getting beat up by Marissa Miller and going home with snooki ;)

Haha, in the end you're still getting something? Our history has kept us in the WHCA for years even though we've been absolutely awful and maybe didn't deserve to be there...

Biggest part about this that ****es me off is the fact that we should be turning around with Mel at the helm, and I'd have LOVED to have seen that in the WCHA instead of the Leftover league... :(

For those of you that didn't see it:
Michigan Tech via Facebook said:
We're obviously aware of the rumors surrounding college hockey. At this point we can't comment on any of it because nothing has been made official. We know change, at some level, is coming in college hockey, and Michigan Tech is well-positioned to continue moving forward and making positive progress. As we have clearly shown, we are fully committed to our hockey program, and we are confident no matter what happens over the next few weeks, we have great future opportunities. We will certainly have something to say regarding all of this once the dust has settled, and when the time is appropriate we are looking forward to laying out our thoughts on what has transpired, and the opportunities we have to improve our position. We're headed in the right direction....Go Huskies!

Brandon,
I appreciate your thoughts.
Sincerely,
George Gwozdecky

Geezer got the same response, I just want hit send on this draft I have saved.

The thing is George, you don't. You played hockey at a school that wasn't a founding member.
Thanks,
Brandon

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

What's Gwoz supposed to say? Give you the honest answer?

Brandon,

Once I saw that your email wasn't coming from the AD or a potential donor, I decided that I didn't have time to actually read it, but I did skim it and saw it had something to do with Tech. Good luck to the rest of the WCHA, you're going to need it.

Sincerely,
George Gwozdecky

Or maybe

Brandon,

You're in BFE and haven't been relevant since Jimmy Carter. I'll miss hoisting the McNotton Cup or however you spell that - sure you don't want to sell it to us? We'll give you a "home" series in Minneapolis! Oh, gotta go, the AD says it's time to go fellate Jeff Jackson.

Lots o' love,
Gwoz

PS: Thanks for all the ice cream.

The next line from the Athletic Department, in responding to the comments in the same FB note that Shirtless posted:

MTU via Facebook said:
No problem, glad we could help. The best part is, we're not kidding :) There are good opportunities ahead for the Huskies and we can't wait until we can talk about them more fully! Have a great weekend, Huskies!

So at least the official spin is positive.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

Well in all honesty, if Michigan Twch can find a way to win, and continues getting alumni support and sells out a home&home with Wisconsin in green bay, maybe things will be ok for tech. That's really the best case

It'll probably be easier to win, and we might get some more NC games (completely ignoring the reorganization proposals in the Leftover League thread.) Not to say it won't be a boring few years until the BHHC splinters or adds members, but we'll survive and do a lot more winning.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

The only sticking point to what you have said, is that we'll never know whether the hypothetical 'winning' could've been done in this conference (yeah yeah, I know we still have two years to find out, but you know what I mean).

Following the split, if we get to a point where we win 20+ games, people are going to say, "Oh, well that's because they play in the cupcake WCHA with the D2 playups".

Green Bay Games = awesome. Although this is purely personal.

Like I've already said. I'm just ****ed that the instant we drop coin the rest of the *****es throw us out. And Mel = Winning right? Right?

Well if MTU starts to have 20 win seasons, even in a slightly inferior league, it will still likely be enough to make the NCAA's and with single game elimination anything can happen.
In my perspective, I realize it's going to be disappointing to not see the top teams in the country coming to MTU (although having the best teams in the country here hasn't been enough to put fans in the seats). But looking at the big picture, from a recruiting perspective, has being in the "strong" WCHA helped Tech's recruiting? I'd say it hasn't. The teams who are leaving have been consistenly getting better recruits than Tech so whether they are in the WCHA or in the Super League they will get their 6 recruits a year; every player out there cannot go to the Big Ten and "Super League". So granted it is one less selling point for Pearson going forward but it is still possible thru good recruiting to put a national contending team on the ice. And although the WCHA is left with the "bottom five", all these teams have been capable of beating the top five so it's not exactly going to be D3 hockey. Hopefully UM and State remain part of the GLI and if Tech does get a home and home with UW at Green Bay, that is a lot more than any other small school will get against the Big Ten. Factor in a revised WCHA, Tech ends up with a much better chance of a home playoff series and showing up in the final five at (hopefully continuing) the EXCEL center. Another thing this likely does is put's NMU back in the WCHA which will be a benefit to MTU and will increase the rivalry. I would have to think to help keep relations somewhat stable, UMD may be inclined to revive the Superior Cup as well. So although disappointing initially, this could end up being OK for MTU in the long run. A school such as Air Force has proven that coming from a weaker conference does have some benefits. Not saying they outweigh the negatives but I don't think it's doomsday for MTU hockey.
