Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

Who would have ever guessed that we could get to the point that the NMU and SCSU fans are the bearable ones around here?

Isn't that like saying eating at Taco Bell is better for your health than McDonald's?

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

Well not so fast just quite yet. the BHHC is certain that notre dame and WMU are coming to them.
Maybe or maybe not but IMHO it behooves college hockey to give these two options that make sense. If the WCHA picks up alaska now, ND might have no choice in where they go.
I think the league should wait a bit and get the lay of the land first.
I don't see Notre Dame having any interest at all in the new WCHA.

Notre Dame can go wherever they choose, with the exception of the BIG 10. The new six pack wants them. Hockey East wants them. The WCHA wants them. The Big 10 wants them, but they have to bring along Football, Basketball and Field Hockey as well.

So the "associate" B1G membership is fake? Would the B1G offer an olive branch with the other sports on some schedule to come in? With penalties if they pull out?

I don't see the B1G doing that but just throwing crap on the wall like all the other angry monkeys

The is no "associate" Big 10 membership.

I don't think the incentive is there for the B1G Mistake to make that move. How much is there to gain by adding Notre Dame hockey, if they don't get football too?

I was looking at it as the teaser for ND. Get them in a little, try it out and the other sports would HAVE to come in on some schedule. That schedule of course may be several years with FB probably being last.

If they do that, I think it would backfire, unless they don't give Notre Dame any money from the B1G mistake network. If Notre Dame can get a cut from the network and still sell their football rights independantly, isn't that just about the perfect situation for them? The associate member thing is just a road that I don't think the B1G mistake wants to go down, or will go down.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

oh sweet irony! This from a ******* duluth fan! Next, say the butthurt 6 disaster is the fault of mtu for voting to accept an application from wmu if they leave the ccha.

:d

I don't quite fully agree. I don't think HE is trying to get them at all. I think HE would entertain taking them if they applied. So you don't want to paint them into a corner where the HE people have not committed, and they have to pick between the abandoners and the wcha.

Ah, but Hockey East is very actively seeking Notre Dame, they have talked with Western as well, but I don't see that as likely.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

If ND is serious about wanting as many non-con games as possible, then they don't want to be in HEA. However they would get to play fellow Catholics BC and Providence. So the debate must be between aligning themselves with the east and playing their Catholic rivals, or aligning themselves with a 7/8-team BHHC and hoping to fill out their OOC schedule with B1G teams. I don't see them interested in joining the WCHA leftovers at all. With their new barn, ND has a chance to make hockey their #2 sport (or at least a co-#2), and casting their lot with the WCHA leftovers guarantees that they relegate it to #3 or 4. I don't picture Jackson being very happy about such a move either.

The chances of the Irish joining the WCHA leftovers (North Dakota, Duluth, Denver, etc) is 50/50. It's either them or Hockey East. Their chances of joining the WCHA are less than zero.

Hockey to surpass ND football and bball? Don't see it, they are competing with women's bball and may be close there.

You mean the CHSL/BHHC/Motel 6/whatever. When I said WCHA leftovers, I meant what will be left of the WCHA after the departures. And yes, there's no chance of that.

I said #2 or co-#2. Obviously ND football is #1 and always will be. And women's bouncyball is just that - women's bouncyball.

True, way too much musical chairs going on right now to really want to be getting jumpy about committing to a new conference right now. Cast your lot in with the WCHA for now, and keep a weather eye out for what else is going on. its far too crazy out there right now. Hell, for all we know, Hockey East might just grab one of the alaska schools with ND just so they can get the Alaska exemption to play extra home games.

But can you tell me what is going RIGHT NOW?
