Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

On one hand, it is nice to see the Wings actively trying to get worse, by signing former Techies. On the other, I used to like Chris Conner, now he's just part of the group of players that I hate with a passion.

To be fair, you hate everything without a vagina.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

RIP Tech Hockey (and NMU/LSSU/BSU/SCSU/MSU-M/FSU/BGSU)

Its time to find an eastern team to follow, because out west they're all ****ed. I think I'm going with RPI.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

You have to wonder what Suzanne is thinking today with the "super league" talk.

Does anyone know, the money hockey brings in from the WCHA does it just go to hockey or does it go to help other sports in the department?

I don't know, but even if it is just used for hockey, the hockey budget is now about 1/3 of what it used to be. Add in the money Tech just threw into the program, and it is very possible that Tech will be in a bad, bad situation in very short order.

Looks like just when NMU and Tech were moving away from playing each other, we may need each other more than ever at this point.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

New strategy, we pool our money together to get Jerry MacInnes to Colorado Springs next week.

Like I said in the other thread, we may now have a legitimate reason to hate you guys again. :)

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

So, I've started to take action by calling the athletic directors and coaches involved in this shuffle. I just got off the phone with CC's athletic director.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

I wrote this for today's paper:

http://www.mininggazette.com/page/c...frightening-future-The-Red-Line.html?nav=5062

It's kind of outdated now, and you and the rest of college hockey can pick it apart all you'd like.

I doubt it's the last thing I've written on the topic. Next one probably includes swear words. I'm supposed to be neutral and all, but this is a remarkably raw deal. Tech, NMU, etc., all got stabbed in the back today for filthy lucre and it's a ****ed shame.

I think I've already seen this quote before, but I suppose there's just one thing left to do...

You fill in the blank.

what are you calling them? :) I've got a few choice words for DU and UND.

For now, lets work together to save each others program. Once we get on the ice...let the hate begin.

If you're strapped for time, I'd stick to writing to/talking with the ADs. They are the ones making the final decisions.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

At this point I don't want to look back 10 years down the line and wish I tried to do something myself, even if it's likely unsuccessful.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

What I don't understand is why the NCAA doesn't step in. Ultimately all these teams are playing for the NCAA championship so I don't understand why as with the NHL they aren't trying to create parity. For as socialistic as public universities are, this is pretty much capitalism at work with teams forming conferences at will for the benefit of themselves. If universities were private and privately funded I would have no problem with this concept. But with Universities being publicly funded and with all the cries of "disenfranchisement" now a days, I would say this is a classic case of disenfranchisement. Where is all the liberal "compassionism" that is so rampant among the university and NCAA world? If I was all the small universities, I would be joining together and file some sort of "disenfranchisement" lawsuit (or appealing to the NCAA) against the Big Ten and Super league teams as they will be causing major financial setbacks and "we just can't have that sort of culture where the upper class continues to remain upper class and the lower class cannot move out of the lower class". Just ask the judges who recently overturned the Michigan citizens votes.

IMO it is the NCAA who should be stepping in unless these leagues want to play for their own championship as Brandon claimed. I don't understand how universities are allowed to form their own conferences at will. Imagine if pro sports teams were allowed to do so; if they were you would have the exact same thing going on and you would lose all the small market teams. They set up divisions and conferences for the good of the league and the NCAA should be doing the same thing. And if you don't want to abide, fine but you're not playing for the NCAA championship.

You dragged politics into an NCAA issue? Really?

The NCAA does not care about the little schools that don't make money; period. As for your lawsuit, it would be laughed out of court. There is nothing preventing schools from leaving the WCHA, and even if there were, it would likely take the form of liquidated damages (like the Big12 and Nebraska/Colorado).
