Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

Wouldn't it be great to meet one of these so called super teams in the first round of the NCAA's and beat their butt's.? Makes my mouth water.
You're already in the Atlantic Hockey mindset. All this means is that they've already won.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

College hockey just does not have quite the same appeal for me if Tech gets tossed into a western equivalent of the AHA, and I know I'm not alone in that feeling.

But then "everyone" will get their wish and MTU, NMU, and LSSU will be playing four conference games against each other every year! The "rivalry" will finally mean something!

 is right
Yay, how much fun! They biggest thing they'll get to play for is the Champion of the UP. Which is about 100 times less impressive than being the best team in Connecticut at this point.

If it all falls in like all the rumors indicate, I'm sure that I'll lose a whole bunch of interest in college hockey. I'm not making trips to Houghton to watch them play Ferris State, and Mankato just isn't interesting enough for me to go there to watch Tech compete for a B-level conference championship and the opportunity to KO'd by North Dakota in the opening round of a 12 team NCAA, because 4 teams folded because of the conference shifts. I would probably make 1 trip a year to watch Tech, for old times sake, and for an excuse to visit the upstanding establishment that is The Red Carpet.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

Well if Tech does get shunted to the side, the non con schedule becomes real important all of a sudden. Sure there is more cachet in watching Tech play the top teams in the west on a regular basis, but remember we play a lot of these smaller teams already anyway.
We essentially switch from a league opponent not of our choice to a non league opponent of our choosing, at a place of our choosing and at a time of our choosing.
It might become more interesting not less. I would love to see a variety of teams come in rather than the same old same old.
The only downside I see is that we might have to accept fewer home games. But we do that now anyway to a certain extent.

If this happens, we will never see UND, DU or CC in Houghton ever again. Just like we will never see MN again, WI after this year. Just like we never saw Michigan or Michigan St. as soon as they weren't required to come up here again. We'll get 4-5 series/year at home. 1 against NMU, 1 against LSSU and 2-3 others against a combination of FSU, UAH, UAA, BSU, SCSU, and MSU-M. That is until those schools start dropping like flies. Mankato, Ferris, UAH and LSSU will be the first wave. BSU, SCSU, NMU and UAA will hold on longer. I don't want the think about how long Tech can hang on when they are relegated to being a mid-major.

Where is this optimism coming from? The only reason I think SCSU will get to see UND, tUMD, and MN still is because of location. UW, I have no idea if we'll see them again, and I think DU and CC are more likely to stay with us, but who knows? And we are easier to get to (close to MPLS), will have a brand new rink when the new leagues are rolling, and have more success on our resume than to all but the very old-school fans. I agree with bigblue, I just don't think that your optimism about the level of opponents you guys will pull in is warranted.

There are ways... both for away and home... to get these guys into town.I don't see DU ever again, but several others might. Certainly it's a crummy situation.. but we may have to make the best of it.

we're f'ed. Duluth won their National Championship just in time. on the bright side we'll never have to see our beautiful trophy in the Ralph.

Western?? in the Super Conference? huh?

Western is D1 in all sports and riding the coattails of Miami (both are MAC schools). Plus, with Western, Miami and Notre Dame have one more bus trip as opposed to flight. Also, every conference needs their doormats.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

I suggest calling the parties involved and filling their voicemails with the PK Ditty.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

I need the Prozac. this is really depressing.

I'm surprised that BGSU isn't being discussed as part of that too, as they're also a MAC school and Division 1 in all sports.

It could be for sure. However this inclusion of wmu is, it seems to me, a last minute thing to try to make it work. if even one of these yo yo's bails on them, then it's a lot tougher. I don't disagree a lot of programs will be in trouble if it happens as is proposed in the media.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

Bowling Green and Ferris and UAH and LSSU are struggling. the Alaska schools - hung out to dry. what an self centered decision on DU and UND's part. even with a winning team - does anyone think Bowling Green is going to pack the arena like Minnesota Wisconsin and UND did?

Flashy has it right in his letter to College hockey on his website.

The biggest problem is none of them care about the bottom halves of the CCHA and WCHA... And those teams including us are screwed. This will not end well for most of the small Michigan and Minnesota teams.

That was my thought as well today when I saw all of this talk about UMD being in the super 8 proposal and not the falcons. IMHO, BGSU folds if they're in a league that doesn't have WMU and Miami. Even though BG is the one school of the MAC's that does have an NC banner up in it's rafters. BGSU is going to be a total pain in the but at MAC meetings if that happens.
