MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

Since (for me) the fans make the road trip worthwhile in Houghton, this is terrible news (alongside the history, mind you). This super-conference is a DIRECT result of the B1G Mistake. Where are the "it won't ruin hockey" people now? *ers.

It's not like I'll stop making road trips, but I'll be even more choosy than before. However, currently with this news in hand, I highly doubt you'll see me in Houghton anytime soon.

It sounds like road trips in general are going to be a thing of the past for the B1G students... Weekday games? ***? You can't do that as a student on a regular basis.

It's more difficult as someone who has a job and is dealing in real life. Skip a class? Ok, cool, you can make it up. Skip out on work too often? Whoops, unemployed.

I thought the B1G rich alums didn't have that issue? ;) But yeah, stupid. Friday and Saturday works well... And that's going to be destroyed just because of TV schedules? Next thing you know B1G corporate will be pushing Weekday afternoon games because of Basketball and Football, which let's be honest, is all the network really cares about in the end. Hockey is just filler to them so they don't have dead air.....

Honestly, this convo happened this weekend:

Many arrived in Houghton on Friday, left on Sunday.

Girl: When are you heading back?
Me: Sunday.
Girl: Wow. Isn't that a lot of miles for a short time?
Me: Used to it. Hockey trips.
Girl: That's just crazy.

1. It is.
2. That's the way many of us work.
3. Throw in weekday games/non-Fri-Sat series? Attendance will drop.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

I could certainly see the B1G going to a Friday/Sunday afternoon arrangement until after football season(or all season). What gets me is the speculation that the BTN won't show any NC games...wteff is up with that?

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

rating sg. ratings. I don't think that simply because you divide up hockey in a different way that the ratings will suddenly go up. So when fox is showing games in minnesota against the btn then the ratings for the two will most likely add to the same as the ratings for the one. especially if the btn is showing osu vs union, etc.
The vast majority of viewers of college hockey are still in minnesota after all.

seeing the info that the bhhc is putting out about who is making money etc from this, these guys are totally in denial about reality.

I understand not showing games against the cupcakes... but when these teams do decide to play BC, BU, UND, DU, UNH, they should air them. Wait... I mean IF they decide to play them.

Cool! I might get a Wings jersey in my collection yet. Time to start working the phones again...

Regarding trips to Houghton, I would still go if we were playing St Mary's Sisters of the Blind. I'm going to watch Tech hockey, I really don't care who they play. If the WCHA grabs The Blessed Sons of NBC (Notre Dame) and/or Miami, I really don't care either way. I would be just as happy to see NMU and LSSU join the WCHA. But I would be happier to see all the non-BI6 Mistake conferences stay as they are. Six "full" conferences are not going to be the welcome mat that encourages other teams to be D-I. Why not leave some open slots so that it gives new teams a place to join (Moorhead, MN) rather than suffer the pain of UAH trying to survive without a conference.

Power teams or not, I think those games against other UP teams would mean more to Tech fans than playing Miami and having half of the alumni who don't follow hockey ask why there was a team from FL in the WCHA. I really enjoyed traveling to NMU and LSSU last season and having two more road games that were within driving distance. As others have pointed out, students are not going to jump on a plane for a weekend series, and most alums are not either. I would much rather watch a game that has a rivarly feel in the barn, rather than playing a great "power house" that everyone knows. I'm sorry but if I have my choice of watching Tech vs BU or Tech for NMU, I don't care if their program sucks, I'm picking NMU or a similar team every time. Then again, I'm the guy who started this paragraph by saying I don't care who we play, so take it with a grain of salt...

Rebuilding?, but I thought we were already winning?

It's a two-way deal. He'll play mostly in GRR, barring injuries.

Or he may come in and because his skills are so completely and totally situated for a different type of game then the Wings normally play. Maybe he'll get some time as a type of "change of pace back" and they'll use him just as something different.

Yeah he'll probably spend the majority of his time in Grand Rapids. Or course we all said the same thing about him signing with Pittsburgh.

I told Diva I'd buy her a jersey.

You might as well buy MEg an Abdelkeder jersey while you're at it.

Of course I will have my Conner jersey by the first time I come back up to the U.P.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

On one hand, it is nice to see the Wings actively trying to get worse, by signing former Techies. On the other, I used to like Chris Conner, now he's just part of the group of players that I hate with a passion.
