Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread I: Not Winning and the ensuing drama.

After discussing with a Chuck Schwartz, we both think its possible that Mel Pearson could bring in Luke Strand and Cam Ellsworth to be his coaching stuff. Who knows if its going to happen but both are great candidates for the positions.

Are you sure Strand? Why not Rud, Powers, Renfrew, Cole, and Aiken? Why not Russell? His top guy should have lots of WCHA assistant coach experience like Rud. Powers would also be nice.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread I: Not Winning and the ensuing drama.

Luke Strand doesn't have a job right now. Rud is not leaving The Gamblers to be a WCHA assistant. The rest, I don't know about right now. I honestly have no knowledge of what Mel Pearson will do, just throwing out a quality possibility.

Rud is not leaving The Gamblers to be a WCHA assistant. .

Rud has spent his whole life in the WCHA(CC and SC) except this season with GB. He has tons of experience being an assistant coach in the league.

I also want Billy Powers who has worked with Mel forever..........................

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread I: Not Winning and the ensuing drama.

Still involves a nerd. ;) and throw in the fact that you probaly couldn't go a week without being online, places you squarely in with the Nerds of Tech. ;)
If I could get a week away from work I could. I rarely post on weekends, most of time I'm on here I'm sitting at my desk at work.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread I: Not Winning and the ensuing drama.

I've got a green tractor you could drive on the weekends, but you don't ride in it, you ride on it.
I spent about 30 hours in a green tractor last weekend, so no thanks. And it was one that you ride in, not on. ;)
Actually, when I told one of the girls, that ctf is referring to, that I was stuck driving tractor all weekend, she responded with "Oh, you're so lucky! Can I ride with sometime?" I think she might be a winner.

Are you going to take her down through the woods and out to the pasture?

Even Tim Thomas didn't want to go to Michigan Tech:

Tim Thomas and Dwyane Roloson are connected by their career paths, but there's another link between the two.

They were nearly teammates at UMass-Lowell.

UMass-Lowell was one of three final choices for Thomas when he was deciding where to play college hockey. But because Roloson had established himself as the No. 1 goalie there, Thomas -- a native of Flint, Mich. -- chose the University of Vermont instead.

“I don’t believe I’ve ever had a conversation with him,” Thomas said of Roloson. “But he actually had an impact on my life.

"My choice was down to Michigan Tech and Lowell when I was choosing a college. The University of Vermont didn’t come into the picture until really late. I’d never even been east of Buffalo before at that point in my life. Roloson was an All-American as a junior for Lowell, and he was coming back for his senior year.

“[Bruce] Crowder was the coach, and he was upfront with me that if I went there I’d be red-shirted, or I’d play in maybe three games or something as a freshman. So I decided not to go to UMass-Lowell all those years ago because of Dwayne Roloson. That really changed everything else that has happened in my life since then.”

Does anyone think there is a snowball's chance that Russell would apply for, or get an assistant coaching job? You can't deny the guy's passion for MTU hockey and I thought he did an above average job getting talent to Houghton, they just got injured. Just imagine if he had gotten Jake and Casey in a Huskies uniform... Getting the kids to Tech is one of the key points for an assistant and he seemed to be good at that part of the job. Maybe he could become Mel's apprentice and get some experiance before bolting for another HC opportunity as a Master Jedi? Or do you think that would just be to weird for the players and doesn't send the right message about a "clean start" for the program? Other than the fact that he was the HC, is it any weirder than Whitten staying on the staff?

Also I'm not up to speed on Cam. Has he been coaching somewhere? Lots of folks dropping his name. Heck why not bring back Prokopetz if you want a coach the players can relate to - talk about a motivator! The guy who captained the team AND got an engineering degree in four years and was a banger every time he took the ice. Not bad.

Jamie's name has come up for a job as a Penn St assistant or end up at Hill's replacement at MN

I think it depends on the circumstances and it would seem very odd I believe to the players but who knows. Maybe it was just too early for Russell to give it a shot at HC.

No, I don't see Russell applying to be an assistant at Michigan Tech. I could see him applying to be an assistant at Princeton or Clarkson or some other school thats looking for an assistant but not here.

As for Cam, he's been an assistant coach for the Sioux City Musketeers the last 3 seasons under 2 coaches including Luke Strand.

I could see him applying to be an assistant at Princeton or Clarkson /QUOTE]

Rolston name has been thrown around with Clarkson. I could see him end up with Rolston at Clarkson.

Also, UAA has an opening that Jamie could end with Shyiak.
