Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread I: Not Winning and the ensuing drama.

After discussing with a Chuck Schwartz, we both think its possible that Mel Pearson could bring in Luke Strand and Cam Ellsworth to be his coaching staff. Who knows if its going to happen but both are great candidates for the positions.

Why do you think we know the answers?

We have our ways...

I don't think you guys realize why I'm thanking SG...

Personally I liked the quote about making Houghton a place others don't like to come to ...

I thought that was already the case... ;)

Still involves a nerd. ;) and throw in the fact that you probaly couldn't go a week without being online, places you squarely in with the Nerds of Tech. ;)

I'll defend bbdl on this one. He's one of the few Techies I know that isn't the stereotype, and certainly one that would go a while without internet access if needed. But, if you were stuck in a tractor all night with nothing to do but watch dirt, wouldn't you find something to pass the time?

I don't think you guys realize why I'm thanking SG...

How has no one hit this softball yet? It was a perfect pitch!

Note to Ian,

If there is such a thing as a list of the Ten Commandments of Good Web Design, you have almost certainly violated one of them by having a critical dead link up on your site for nearly the past 3 hours. Please get Coach Pearson's first presser out there already for those of us who had to actually work. I am amazed that Suzanne did not bull-whip him into getting the rebroadcast up before 5 PM.

EDIT: It's finally up.

Listening to a bit of the pre-conference chatter, got a couple interesting tidbits from the players to share.

Anyone remember who had the hip injury towards the end of last season? I realize we had a lot of injuries, but he had an interesting comment about the skating treadmill.

Additionally, Ryan Furne (I believe it was Furne) claimed he could've played against North Dakota.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread I: Not Winning and the ensuing drama.

Mel Pearson said:
"I've already been busy recruiting", said Pearson joking that, "Suzanne was golfing on the weekend, while I was in an ice rink. I love recruiting, I love being in the rinks, I like dealing with the players and their parents, and I have a passion for that."

Mel Pearson said:
"I'm not throwing this next year away for the seniors. We have a chance to do some good things next year. I can't tell you how many wins, and I can't tell you what place we're going to end up in, but I do not want to put ceilings on this team. I want to raise the bar high, and we're going to try and get to that bar."

His two best quotes, IMO.

He added that, as a head coach, he will not be able to spend quite as much time on the recruiting trail anymore. However, he said that he anticipates spending most of his next two summers away from Houghton. It's very obvious that he wants his own players in place ASAP, and what new coach doesn't? It's good that he's willing to sacrifice as much time as possible to the cause.

That said, it's good that he made it clear that he won't be using the "I need MY guys to play MY systems" excuse for the next 1-2 years.
