Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread I: Not Winning and the ensuing drama.

When Marks is providing color and he uses basketball or football terms to describe the game at times; that is very marginal.

He was downright embarrassing at times this past season. His lack of knowledge of the sport was telling as to his interest in covering it when they couldn't buy a win.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread I: Not Winning and the ensuing drama.

No offense against Wes Frahm; I think he does a good job on the sports he currently covers; to be a first class program, a guy with a background in hockey should be hired to replace Marks..

For sure on this one. It is bad enought the NHL has a commish with a BB background.

Don't know if anyone caught this or not but on the MIX sports show today Jim Young stated that his "source" stated that B.Johnson verballed to Windsor this past weekend and will be signing within 7-10 days.

Ben Johnson could have done what Mike Usitalo did to the huskies program in the early 1970's. Can you say potential.

Here is Mike Usitalo's bio from cchockeyhistory.org for those who don't know about him: "Mike Usitalo, born 1952 in Calumet, he played High School sports at Calumet, as a graduating Senior at Calumet High School, he was chosen for the George Gipp Award (The famous athlete, George Gipp, grew up in nearby Laurium.) While in High School, he played hockey for the CLK Wolverines at the age of 16. Mike then played at Michigan Tech University (1970-1974). He had a WCHA-record 28 goals as a freshman in 1970-71, had 71 total goals in 61 games for the Huskies, and was drafted by the NHL's Los Angeles Kings in 1972: 6th round, #84 overall. He helped the U.S. team win the World Championship in 1974 in Yugoslavia and was rookie of the year in the American Hockey League in 1974-75. From 1974-76, he played hockey teams with the Springfield Indians AHL, Muskegon Mohawks IHL, and Fort Worth Texans CHL. An injury in the 1976-77 season ended his hockey career. Mike was inducted into the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame in 2001."

I wish Ben Johnson good luck as he plays for the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread I: Not Winning and the ensuing drama.

I've "heard" that one of Pearson's requirements was enough $$'s to hire quality assistants which only makes sense when he's putting his name on the line to rebuild the program; so I'm guessing as in the head coach search, lack of money will not be an issue. So I will not be surprised to see $100K going to his top guy. I think it would be more likely that you may see a USHL head coach without college experience who comes to learn the college "ropes" and if part of a successful rebuild would be a very strong candidate for a head coaching position.

If Eric Rud is making a $100,000 right now in the USHL, interviewed at tech, and is a first year USHL HC.

Why wouldnt Rud not be intrested in the Huskies AC job?

...because he's been an assistant for two other college programs, and now wants to be a head coach?

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread I: Not Winning and the ensuing drama.

Get a ****ing clue. He's a head coach, he wants to be a head coach, he's already been an assistant coach. The pure and utter stupidity floating around here is maddening!

I will be happy on having Luke Strand lead Assistant and AC in the USHL Cam Ellsworth.

Whoever it is it better be a proven recruiter in college hockey, I hope.

Why not Billy Powers? Havent heard he is not intrested?

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread I: Not Winning and the ensuing drama.

He could be waiting for **** to freeze over.

Scotty Owens is 61, quite a bit older than many people think. He could be within five years of retirement. With continued success in Green Bay and CC alumni status, Rud could be the top candidate for that job when it opens up.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread I: Not Winning and the ensuing drama.

I don't know if the link will work...

Pearson joked that he’d love to take Michigan assistant Billy Powers with him to Tech but knows there’s no chance of of him leaving U-M. Pearson said he’ll begin working on his coaching staff soon.

Here's the relevant bit. Properly quoted I might add.

No Billy, No Rud, and now i dont know who will want come with Mel to Hoton.

Hey this is just like the HC process. We have hit a road block.

Start a new thread on who is going uproot the family and become ACs for the huskies.
I would look for somebody from Canada so they dont have culture shock.

Finally, a new poster that is in touch with reality.

There are plenty of us posters in touch with reality. It's just hard for us to find a LOGICAL place to enter the "conversation". I share your frustration.
