Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

How does the state legally get around offering boys programs, but not girls?

I provided the link, it would have given you the answer to that question.

the girls get volleyball.

Among others.
Boys' only sports: Football, Wrestling, Ice Hockey, and Baseball.
Girls' only sports: Competitive Cheerleading*, Gymnastics, Softball, Volleyball
Boys' and Girls' sports: Basketball, Bowling*, Cross Country, Golf, Lacrosse, Skiing, Soccer, Swim & Dive, Tennis, Track & Field.

I'm sure other sports are offered at other schools on a club level, but they are not MHSAA sanctioned. Call me out on all the piddly technicalities you want, but the point is that Michigan High Schools as a whole do not field girls' hockey teams. Hell, most of them barely field a boys' team.

*Yeah, I know, it's not really a sport, it's just listed on the site as being sanctioned so I included it in this list.

I know, the BCS is a sham.

No, the point is that many high school girls in Michigan play competitive hockey. If you want to split hairs, knock yourself out.

The April 25th INCH Podcast talks about MTU starting at the 39:22 mark. When did they put a top on the visitor's penalty box? I remember a game where a player in the box started poking fans with his stick and stood up on the seat to yell at them. A petite Public Safety officer came running down the stairs and stiff-armed the guy, knocking him back down into the box. The crowd roared! They stationed an officer at the box for the rest of the game. The fans would have ripped that guy apart like a chicken if he had gotten out of that box.

Ok, back on topic. No rumors today huh? Frustratingly quiet lately. Hopefully Suzanne talks to Cary Eades while she's in Florida for the ahca conference.

On a good note, Jamie Russell is vice president of the AHCA, so expect good networking at the meeting for Suzanne.

From a Green Bay Press Gazette article this morning:

"Rud update: Rud said Wednesday he was told Michigan Tech will interview more candidates about its open coaching position, with a decision expected in two to three weeks."

No surprises there, but at least some real info.

We may need to start a new thread if we want to include real info. I'm not sure it fits here. :p

This change of direction ( to interview a few more candidates ) leads me to think
Mike Hastings is out of the picture. He is too strong a candidate to tell him we will
get back to you in a couple weeks.

Oh I don't think so. He's been an assistant for only a couple years at this level. Does have a thicker resume than Rud though, and would get my vote (without knowing either one). I think this decision to complete a round of interviews was made after the first two offers to "no-doubt" candidates were turned down.

I think this is the correct move now that we are going to be considering non-alum candidates exclusively. Let Suzanne finish up the Florida trip, bring all the info she is gathering down there back with her, maybe interview a couple more candidates, and then make the decision in another 1-2 weeks.

Listening to that podcast reminds me just how much I dislike the inch journalists. No wonder I stay away from their site.

I listen to it occasionally, but I tend to just skip through parts of it. Their podcast could be so much better without the bad inside jokes and the OT drivel they inevitably end with. I don't think they take themselves too seriously though. They just sort of call each other up and BS like they're still in college, sitting in their living room, and chugging beers.

As for their attitude towards MTU, they treat Tech like it's their little brother - they actually do care about the program and its history, but they still enjoy beating us up from time to time.

As the other coaching positions around the country get filled, the Tech opportunity gets more desirable and allows the "MTU Head Hockey Coach Selection Task Force," whoever that may be, to take as much time as they need.

Since we never heard directly from Mel, I wonder if he's having second thoughts and might throw his hat back into the ring or if the MTUHHCSTF might raise the ante and run down the list one last time starting with Blais. Don't laugh...it could happen. If nothing else, Suzanne has proven that she's a master of suspense.

Is it just me or does Gadowsky remind anyone else of buzz lightyear?
He reminds me of a Dick Tracy villian, Big Boy Caprice to be exact:

The committee isn't being used this time around, it's Suzanne and administration thing.

That is assuming the other programs don't grab cantidates we had on our "want" list to become their next coach. If that happens, yes, the job gets more desirable, but the cantidates become less desirable. I still believe that MTU has to be at the top of the list of HC openings this off season because there is really no down side. Other than maybe the PSU job, what position is going to have lower expectations? If the coach wins he's a hero, if not they'll just say it can't be done in Houghton...
