Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Suzanne and the administration cannot let this drag out beyond mid-May. The new coach has to get the ball rolling, whoever he ends up being.

As I predicted and I'll translate for Hastings " you didn't offer me enough to come up there".

Based on Phase 1 results and contrary to what Mrs. Sanregret publicly stated "RESOURCES ARE AN ISSUE" and hence we have Phase II- interviews to find the best "budget" candidates. Kind of a repeat of the Russell hiring. Either she doesn't mind making a fool of herself or the person(s) who funded the "resources are not an issue" statement is having a say on how much resources will be funded to each candidate; and are making her look like a fool.

I am sick. Get somebody with HC experience, please. No more repeats of previous coaches except Sertich.

Speaking with administration yesterday, hockey's financial supporters have made sure money is not an issue.

This is our guy...IMO

http://www.snc.edu/athletics/profiles/tim.coghlin.html

Can't really see any negatives with this guy...

He has...

appeared in 12 NCAA DIII appearances
appeared in 7 DIII frozen fours
been DIII national runner up 3 times
been DIII National Champions 2 times
been DIII National Champion as an AC
been DIII National Champion as a player
had two undefeated seasons as HC
been named coach of the year 5 times

Second on all time wins list as a head coach, all NCAA divisions. No AC, second fiddle stuff going on there.

One might argue this is at the DIII level...bunch of BS...winning is winning and competing is competing at any level...you still have to get the job done.

SNC is a private school with no scholarship program and Coghlin consistently puts teams together so he knows how to recruit.

What about recruiting to Houghton you ask? I don't think we need to be looking for the top talent but the talent that will fit the program. Example: Herb Brooks and the 1980 US Olympic Hockey Team. I believe, previous coaches at Tech have been able to do this but the program was wrong or the support was not there. It appears the support is there now. Find a coach with the right program, find a few key players, and make it happen...

Yeah, Eades and Pearson might be great targets on paper but ask yourself why they have never stepped out of the shadows of the AC position into the HC role after so many years...

Coghlin should be interviewed and considered a top candidate, again, IMHO...

FWIW, Eades was the Head Coach at Warroad HS for 11 seasons, won 3 State titles and was 237-62-6. Before that, he coached (and was GM) of the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL for two seasons, going 86-46-7, and won the 1993 National Junior Championship. While Eades HAS been the assistant/associate at UND for 14 seasons, that has been split up in two different stints. The first under Gasparini from 1984-1991, and the second under Hakstol from 2004-2011.

Was Eades a candidate when Gasparini left?

Point taken...what I was driving at was the step to the HC position with a DI program as he has been in the AC position for a long time...he definitely has some great HC experience and would be a great land but I believe getting him to move at this point from his current scenario is probably a big long shot...same thing as we saw with Pearson

Coghlin is a winner for sure. People will knock him for being a DIII coach, but Tech could do much worse. He is a very good recruiter as well.

Tim might be worth the risk.................At this point he may not be bad choice and proven winner in college hockey as a HC.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Nothing what so ever is going to happen until tuesday at the absolute earliest and I would not be looking for anything much until thursday.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Relax.................you're not in a Hollywood movie. Sheesh. For crine out loud maybe Suzanne doesn't know jack squat about Men's hockey.

Does she need too or just needs to know enough. Take time and find the right guy, and find what the stops have been.
