Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

That is assuming the other programs don't grab cantidates we had on our "want" list to become their next coach. If that happens, yes, the job gets more desirable, but the cantidates become less desirable.
So far, that hasn't happened. We weren't considering Bennett, Leaman, Bazin, Anastos or Gadowsky. College Hockey News has a handy list of Coaching Moves. As others have pointed out, WCHA Head Coach slots don't open up very often and I agree with you that there's little downside with Tech.

I still believe that MTU has to be at the top of the list of HC openings this off season because there is really no down side. Other than maybe the PSU job, what position is going to have lower expectations? If the coach wins he's a hero, if not they'll just say it can't be done in Houghton...

I have heard that Mike Hastings decided that he did not want to uproot his family. Seeing he has two young children. Bummer, I felt he would have been a great choice.

Phase 1:
Blais - No
Pearson - No
Hastings - No

Phase 2:
Rud

I don't think Davis Payne is giving up his job in St Louis. Rolston isn't interested. McKay would need some time as more than a volunteer assistant. Cichocki is an intersting choice, but he was well under .500 as a minor pro coach and has been away from the college circuit for many years. But I think he might be a viable candidate if he could have a successful, experienced assistant. Renfrew, no thanks. There are some good names on the list, but what would it take to get Guentzel, Eades, Pooley, Brown or Richards to Houghton?

Here would be my current Top 3:

1. Eric Rud
2. John Markell
3. Kevin Patrick

It would take some luck to get any of these guys to Houghton. I would take any guy with HC experience, If you look at the previous tech coaches none of them had any HC experience.

Rud only has one year as a head coach in the USHL. I would take Rud as an AC coach for recruiting because of his experience. i

I wish I knew who is intrested in this list or wanting to move on to HC college coaching?

How many of those are Yoopers? I am surprised you want non-Yoopers to coach :p

You won't see Rud coming here as an assistant. It would be a step down from his current spot.

I think a AC coach in the WCHA is higher than a USHL head coach job.

He has been AC for years with St Cloud and CC.

I dont think one year experience in the USHL HC makes him qualify for a HC coach job in college hockey.

Hastings had 15 years as a head coach in the USHL and only 3 as a AC in college hockey.

If that's the case, why would Blashill have left a position as assistant at Miami to take a USHL Head Coaching job? Why did Rud leave St. Cloud to take a USHL head coaching job? Why did Kevin Patrick leave Wisconsin to take a USHL Head coaching job? How about Reg Simon?

Why did Hastings leave Omaha(USHL) HC for college AC?

Why did Mike Guetzel leave USHL head coach for college AC?

Why Mark Osecki leave USHL (Green Bay) HC to become AC for Wisconsin?

I am not convinced that HC coach in USHL is higher then AC in college hockey.

As I predicted and I'll translate for Hastings " you didn't offer me enough to come up there".

Based on Phase 1 results and contrary to what Mrs. Sanregret publicly stated "RESOURCES ARE AN ISSUE" and hence we have Phase II- interviews to find the best "budget" candidates. Kind of a repeat of the Russell hiring. Either she doesn't mind making a fool of herself or the person(s) who funded the "resources are not an issue" statement is having a say on how much resources will be funded to each candidate; and are making her look like a fool.

I think in the case of Blais, the offer (if it was actually made) was enough to get him to listen, but the total package, whether it be assistant salaries, recruiting, travel or equipment budget, wasnt enough. With Mel, if the figures for his salary that have been thrown around here are even remotely close, they sound competitive, but again, it could have been other parts of the package, AND if those figures are accurate, not high enough to keep Red and Dave Brandon from upping the ante just enough. I never believed that resources wouldn't be an issue. The fact that there is so much more to it than just the salary for the head coach is a big thing. Hopefully they still can get someone solid to elevate the program. I posted earlier that I think the best, and most likely to accept, and fit within the financial parameters, candidates are Rud, Patrick and Markell. With Rud and Markell being the most likely.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Please, NOT Markell. If she couldn't lure Mel away, then Suzanne has to hire someone with WCHA experience.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

If Hastings is out, as speculated above, and it was for family reasons, fine. If it was monetary reasons then you might as well cross off most of the names on the list.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Well she certainly has her work cut out for her, IF and it's a big if, that rumor is true.
Otherwise she is right on track.
Maybe she is focussing on Eades, who knows.

I agree a couple more weeks should do it.
