Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Back in the 70s, I was at Northwood's in Hancock and saw a pair of hockey skates with white side panels and black trim. I remember telling the salesman that they looked cool and he looked down his nose and drolly replied, "Those are ladies hockey skates."

You're correct. Many high schools in the U.P. have girls teams. It's a shame not to take advantage of that local resource. I wonder how many Yooper girls are playing on other college teams. Recruiting should be easy...lots of men! :D

Really? Which UP high schools sponsor girls hockey? In fact, name a high school in the state that has girls hockey and where do they play the championship game?

As per MHSAA.com, no schools in Michigan have a Varsity or even JV level girls' hockey team. I'm sure several have clubs, but there are no official MHSAA sanctioned girls' hockey programs.

May be but my daughter played for the Plymouth Canton Penguins HS hockey team a couple of years ago.
They played against Grosse Pointe south, Novi, Northville, etc. sounds like HS hockey to me.

A quick Google search on Michigan High School Girls Hockey turned up that the Grosse Pointe South Lady Blue Devils are the 2011 State Champions in the Michigan Metro Girls High School Hockey League:

Here's a list of the Girls 2011 State Champions in Tier 1 & 2:

The Keweenaw Storm and Marquette Tier 2 Girls teams are in the UP.

Hastings and Rud together maybe....

Hastings and Rud together would be awesome, but would not make sense to me that Rud would come up to interview now. If Hastings would want him as an assistant he would just bring him on. The new head coach would bring assistants with him so why
would MTU post an Assistant Coach position. I find that a little strange at this point.
I realize you have to post the position, but why now and why one position not two if
you were going to post it ?

Be that as it may, A Tech woman's hockey team is a stupid idea.

Yes, ask SCSU about that. The Women's hockey team bleeds to about $.5M a year. Think about that, 1/2 million. If a school can get around Title IX issues without starting a women's hockey team, then that's what they should do, NOT start a team.

UMD's does about -$ 1 Million according to sources. Of course our womens coach had the benefit of the big booster. Unfortunate the big booster was also the Chancellor of UMD.

the best option is women's track, or if the school already has that, then women's crew. way cheaper than hockey.

Neither the Keweenaw Storm or Marquette Advantedge sports are high school teams. The Storm are a junior hockey U-16 team and the Marquette team is a U-19 and has some college students on the squad. None of those state champs listed is a high school team.

Ok, back on topic. No rumors today huh? Frustratingly quiet lately. Hopefully Suzanne talks to Cary Eades while she's in Florida for the ahca conference.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

I think she talks to more than one, the conference is 5 days long. What else is there to do for 5 days except hang at the pool and talk to coaches. Also I note that Princeton is advertising their coaching position as is a new D 2 team, the University of Colorado at Denver.

CU-D plays in the ACHA.

I don't know................that was written by Charley Walters. That part at the end of his columns is called "Don't Print That" obviously because he's just making up crap. If it was written by Michael Russo at the Star and Tribune it might be more convincing. *sigh*

He states it's his opinion so I don't know why you would say he's making things up. This also isn't the first time I heard this rumor, just the first time I've seen it in print.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Because Charley Walters is an idiot. He and Sid Hartman seem to have a competition about who can say the dumbest thing. They both are constantly throwing sh^t against a wall and hoping something sticks.

Exactly Mister Dirty. There's a fine line between crazy talk and what Charley Walters/Sid Hartman (one in the same) have to say. *sigh*
