Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

He's listed down in the Pipe Dream section.

There may be a few prima donnas who will turn up their nose at being a second or third choice but I think most coaches understand the politics of picking a new coach and will be flattered to be considered. I'd be as happy as a tick on a dog if some company picked me last for $150K job.

This is actually a great opportunity with minimal risk. If they turn the program around, they'll be a hero, if they don't, they can blame the situation. By comparison, whoever takes over at Michigan, can only fail or maintain Red's tradition, there's no upside potential. If they can't turn Tech around, they need to leave after 4 years. Russell's problem was he stayed too long and rode it back down into the ground.

I wonder if Suzanne has actually made anyone an offer other than Mel. At this point, she may be just interviewing candidates, asking them what they need and telling them, "We'll get back to you."

It appears to me that Suzanne has a list and they are going to interview canidates one at a time and then offer the job, if no issues arise.
In summary:
1. Dean Blais - NO:(
2. Mel Pearson - NO:mad:
3. Mike Hastings - Offer made, waiting on answer:;)

Do you know that Hastings actually received an offer, because another candidate is in town today?

Didn't Frank just sign an extension? I think you can scratch him off.
Let's hire Mark Johnson to start a MTU Women's program. :)

Here I figured Suzanne would be getting all packed for her flight tomorrow morning...

Good idea. That would give Grant Dossetto another sport to write long winded diatribes about.

Has Suzanne considered interviewing the skating treadmill?

Has Suzanne considered interviewing the skating treadmill?

Skating Treadmill applied, but his track record of player development isn't very good, as his conditioning programs seem to cause more lower body injuries. He's also very inconsistent - one hour he's on and really working the players hard, the next he's switched off and distant. Finally, Coach Treadmill never saw any actual ice time during his college days, so there is some concern that the players wouldn't respect him.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

I do not know if he came to Houghton. I do know he had an offer sheet in his hand
and gave it some consideration before declining.

He did not visit your fair city. Conversations were begun in St. Paul.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Interesting that the assistant job was posted today. I think by University policy they can't fill it without posting it, but I still expected them to wait until a head coach is hired before officially posting it. This process may be further along than I know.

Actually a women's program was a consideration not that far back. You may be surprised at the level of talent that is nearby.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

So what if, and this is a big what if, Eric Rud wasn't on campus for the Head Coach position, but for a potential Associate/Assistant spot. It seems odd that the assistant position was posted before a coach was even hired.

The women's programs at Tech are quite successful so I don't think Grant would have anything to blather on about. I just figured that while the high rollers had their checkbooks out, Suzanne could convince them to just make it out for a little extra or better yet, leave the amount blank. Seriously, I bet if she hit up the female engineering alums, she could raise enough to make it happen.

The Fighting Sues are successful. If we can get MTU and a few more WCHA schools to field teams, we can kick the Big Ten ladies out the door. As Leon Phelps would say, "That was nice, now it's time for you to go..."
