Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Sorry to offend the masses, but MTU has been guaranteed points to the rest of the conference as of late. There are facility issues and appear to be question about administrative support. Theres even a thread to dump the SID. It's not as attractive as the PSU opening was, and it's going to take patience. That said, Hastings, Eades, Rud etc., have the ability to make MTU better. My opinion is that the initial contract should be for four or five years.

I agree with your first sentence, if you'd like to elaborate on your second, I'd love to hear what Facility issues they have. The the fact that Michigan Tech currently has a stupid SID doesn't mean much, he can be replaced...just need a coach that wants him gone. I've even heard rumors of restructuring the SID office. Wes would be way better for the hockey program, but who knows what will happen. It is quite obvious that PSU was a more attractive job, but I don't think Michigan Tech is an unattractive position by any stretch. I agree with your last 2 sentences. I certainly hope the first few years would show drastic improvement. Better special teams and more wins shouldn't be that tough, especially with a little health.

Tech has quite a bit of talent coming in. Couple that with what was there and a new attitude, and they win 15 games even if the commissioner coaches.

Second the facilities aren't at all that bad. maybe you should take a tour. It would be really nice though to have so many fans that you are considering expanding the rink.

Exposure of the program needs work no doubt about it.
There are some long term concerns but these are not really locally generated.

last, anyone know if suzanne will be in florida?

1) The MacInnes is much nicer than Yost. The last time I was in Yost, it had bleachers and the locker rooms were upstairs. Seating was cramped because the U of M students would always try to squeeze extra friends into the bleachers.

2) Scratch Blashill from the list. He just signed an extension with WMU. It appears that our head coach opening is putting more money into other coaches' pockets.

I don't think he was on our list (I heard it was another opening that got him the raise). Anyone seen breakfasting in Houghton lately?

What are the facility issues? I've been in over 60 facilities of similar size, and MacInnes is among the best places to watch a game. It has outstanding facilities for the players and coaches. The media facilities are top notch as well. The new seats and suites were a great upgrade as well. It is a first class facility. Can it match recently constructed arenas at Duluth and Miami? Not quite. But it certainly doesn't leave alot to be desired. It really is an asset to the program.

He's listed down in the Pipe Dream section.

There may be a few prima donnas who will turn up their nose at being a second or third choice but I think most coaches understand the politics of picking a new coach and will be flattered to be considered. I'd be as happy as a tick on a dog if some company picked me last for $150K job.

This is actually a great opportunity with minimal risk. If they turn the program around, they'll be a hero, if they don't, they can blame the situation. By comparison, whoever takes over at Michigan, can only fail or maintain Red's tradition, there's no upside potential. If they can't turn Tech around, they need to leave after 4 years. Russell's problem was he stayed too long and rode it back down into the ground.

I wonder if Suzanne has actually made anyone an offer other than Mel. At this point, she may be just interviewing candidates, asking them what they need and telling them, "We'll get back to you."

I fully agree. I've been to several facilities and not just in the seats but in the locker, and weight rooms, etc. It easily outclasses several facilities some of which are much newer. Quite frankly the entire SDC does that compared to many other colleges.
