let's face it. this looking for a new coach thing has been going on awhile. I would imagine they already have a short list. they are going to want to get someone up and going as soon as possible.

The list has started,at least here, this going to be fun to see who gets the Huskies hockey coaching job.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Some pretty harsh comments related to Suzanne there. Besides possible money, what may be lacking in the program?
As I've said before, I grew up in Ann Arbor and I loved Tech's location and alpine atmosphere. Aren't there any local non-college girls who'll date hockey players? I bet there are. How 'bout Finlandia nursing co-eds?

One thing that could help is to create some kind of fast-track 3 year degree program for the players who don't want to be engineers. Some way they could get a degree faster than other schools, maybe an online/on-campus hybrid. Most of our players aren't hanging around for four years and if they do, they can take some graduate classes. Maybe the pitch is that when they wash out in the NHL, they can come back to finish up. I hate to break it to you but Yale, Michigan and the Air Force Academy are all considered academically superior to Tech and yet they win.

We used to joke about who would hire Gord Salt or Roger Moy to do their accounting. The majority of MacInnes' players were not academic giants by any stretch.

Nothing we didn't already know. Suzanne just sort of dropped the public a formal memo, enrobed with mediaspeak.

However, it is encouraging to see that the deadline for a decision is the end of this month. I would think that means that on-site interviews should be completed over the next couple of weeks.

Send someone from the paint store out to start casing the entrances soon. ;)

I want to hear something more solid, like names.

Of course she's not going to name names at this point... that would be stupid. I found two interesting things in the interview. One that they've set a target of April 30th (the USHL playoffs run into mid-May). The other that they've been approached by people they didn't expect to apply.

I'm surprised she gave a date at all. Wonder if Comley is one of those?

on a distantly related subject, anyone on this board know anyone who is in with erim?

Why wouldn't you? Just leave it a mystery for all involved? future recruits, fans, current players. It's not like April 30th is next week, it's a month away.

Regarding Comley, if he can't consistently win at a big 10 school the last few years, how's he going to win at tech? You might as well have kept Russell.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Because putting a deadline on it is artificial. You want the right guy not the right date. Fans don't care when just who, and more importantly he win. Current players are not going anywhere. Recruits if they signed are locked in.

Comley won at NMU, was consistent, took guys to the pros. He got the job at MSU partly because he and Mason are very close friends and he DID win there, brought them a title.

It's a target as she stated which is a date you work toward. Fans don't care when? Of course they do, why are we discussing when if knowone cares. Recruits aren't locked in; they could choose to go elsewhere if offers are out there and MTU is in limbo. There are also recruits still available for next year that a new coach could could bring in for an immediate impact. There are Ben Johnsons and Damon Whittens who are likely waiting to determine their future. You want a new coach as soon as possible for a variety of reasons and I would guess that is why she put the date out there; to provide a timeline to people who are currently exploring options.

Russell won consistently (less than 10 games per year) at MTU as well; if he was the answer, they wouldn't have wanted him out at state. 3 out of the last 4 years he had marginal records at State coming off a National title a couple years prior. That's when your program should be gaining momentum.

I believe that this article has the wrong Green Bay coach.

I think it is Tim Coghlin coach of St Norberts. He works with former mtu captain AJ Aiken and Jay Boxer is the rink manager at his rink.

He is a former UW Stevens Point player. Has won one National Championship as a player and two as a coach.

Tim won his second Division 3 national championship this season.

He is from western Canada where many ex tech alumni are from. Tim is a proven winner with a masters degree.

Tim would be good risk for MTU and MTU would be a good risk for Tim.

I see you're one of those bloggers that cuts things and does not include all that was said. Example if a recruit is SIGNED they are not going anywhere. Again as a fan do you care when or who?

If a recruit doesn't want to play for the new coach, he could be released from his commitment. Better that than to keep a guy who isn't going to give the new boss 110% of his effort every shift.

We also have a 2012 who is not old enough to have signed an NLI yet - Khaira.
