>< Michigan Tech Huskies 2022-23: Over One Century of Hockey ><

Assuming St. Cloud holds on to win the NaCHo, here are my predicted brackets and sites. I don't like it at all, but dollars to donuts this is how it happens.

Fargo
(1)Minnesota vs (16)Canisius
(6)St. Cloud vs (11)Mankato

Bridgeport
(2)Quinnipiac vs (14)Merrimack
(7)Harvard vs (9)Ohio State

Allentown
(3)Denver vs (15)Colgate
(8)Penn State vs (10)Tech

Manchester
(4)Skunks vs (13)Cornell
(5)Boston U vs (12)Western

I'd agree. I'd also add, though it pains me, that this would be a cakewalk to Tampa for the Wolverines.

NYC resident and Boston College fan with no skin in the game. Going to the Allentown regional. Hope you folks are there because I love your band. All we'd hear from Minnesota State is "Ole, Ole, Ole ..." Bad enough as it is we'll have to hear Hail to the Victors, assuming the weasels are there.

If you've been to Allentown, its not the nicest town on earth. Of course neither is Bridgeport but at least Bridgeport has good pizza.

Allentown has an indoor kart track (gas not electric)- so there's that. Downtown where PPL Arena is located isn't bad either.

There was no great solution honestly. A home game for PSU though. I don't know what the ice will be like.

My concern is out D's play against high skill/offense first teams. Tech has had some truly awful periods against BG and NMU. Being Friday, Super Blake should show up.

I hope it goes like the BU game, we get 3 quick ones and grind out a win.

Don't fool yourself into thinking that Penn State is a "skill" team. They have limited talent and made their NCAA resume by playing total garbage in the non-conference season. All they do is just throw pucks at the net from anyplace they can and try to create havoc. This is not a team who has players that can beat you with individual skill, which has been the kryptonite for Tech so far this season. Any team with defensive discipline and responsibility can neutralize them pretty easily. They're averaging just 2.3 goals per game since January and only scored more than a pair in 2 of 9 games, so they are by no means offensively dominant.

I've already spoken to one coach who faced both teams that gives a clear advantage to the Huskies.

Do you think Penn State will have a significant advantage in fan support? It's a short trip, but not THAT short of a trip, and you have to go near Philadelphia, which could dissuade a lot of rational people. Also, it's a 4:00 game, which suppresses attendance a little in normal circumstances. Are there rabid PSU fans when it comes to travel, or do we have enough of a track record to say? They had the Nashville game, but they were always going to be overwhelmed by NoDak fans for that one.

Likely that they will show up. The Allentown regional that Penn State played in as a host in 2018 drew almost 8000, while the ones they didn't play in averaged between 2500 and 3000.

Good points. Although that was a Saturday-Sunday regional then, which helped attendance. This new format, with a Thursday noon game, and a day between games, is great for the guy who takes the days off and watches on TV (No overlapping games!), but I think in the long run it's going to hurt the attendance for 1st round games.
But good luck, Tech! Get to Tampa!

PSU has a 500 record vs both MSU and Notre Dame so there's that.

You can fly into ABE airport, ( Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton) or you can fly to Philly and drive. My daughter lives in Philly. I like it there. people there aren't any different than anywhere else in the world. I think it's about 2 hours north, maybe 2.5 from the airport. Depending on time of day. There is usually a lot of traffic. I don't know how many tickets are sold but will they all show up?, maybe. Tech fans will. You have to expect that, being in PA, quite a few will.

If you're thinking of flying to ABE, good luck. On a lark I checked and the last-minute fares are what I'd expect to pay to go to Europe. Also, Delta only serves ABE from ATL.

If a rental car isn't too expensive, I would consider MDT (Harrisburg) instead and drive the last 90 minutes - still pricey, but not as quite as appalling. Even PHL might be doable depending on the time of your arrival. Or just drive if you're within 8-10 hours and can get the time off.

Newark could be an option as well, 90-100 minutes from Allentown. Granted, you would have to drive through some of the NYC traffic, but still an option and a major airport.

Philadelphia is the closest timewise. As previously stated, Newark isn't much further. Friday traffic out of Philly headed up the NE extension can also be difficult.

From Newark Liberty, it's a straight shot west on I78. Most of the traffic will be around the airport.

We live on Staten Island. The drive to Allentown via Newark and I-78 is much better than the tiring schlep to Bridgeport through the boroughs, Westchester County and Fairfield County. If you go that way the best bathroom stop in western NJ is the Pilot right off Exit 7 -- easy off, easy back on. And once in Allentown, you can get a big meal at the Sunrise Diner on 4th Street, about halfway between the interstate and the downtown arena.
