>< Michigan Tech Huskies 2022-23: Over One Century of Hockey ><

I honestly think it was the right call, though. You can't cross check the goalie in the back and expect the goal to stand. The problem was giving up three power play goals.

I heard Joe say that in his post-game interview. He was livid. But what was "this is what's going to happen" referring to? Taking the goal away? I hate it but I think it was the right call. Sounds like we were told by refs they were going to put their whistles away, but the review was correct. The hooking call that led to the final goal, however.....

The “cross check in the back” was the homer interpretation of two players being tied up and one of them falling across the goalie while holding a stick. If that was normally called a no-goal, goal scoring would be down by about 20-30%.

I respectfully disagree. I think that goal gets taken off the board in almost any situation. Or maybe I'm just trying to justify it to myself so I can sleep tonight.

Gotcha. Well clearly if that's what we were told, there's a bigger problem. I can't believe a ref would confess to not calling any penalties on one team, but this is college hockey...

Seriously, you really think the league doesn't want anybody but MSU to win the regular-season title? If anything, it's to the league's advantage to have someone else win. I've watched that replay over and over again, and it looks like a deliberate shoving the goalie down, not an incidental contact. Believe what you want, but that was the right call. The goalie has to be allowed to play his position.

I think the goalie interference call was correct. As soon as I saw the replay, I told my son the goal should not count (I was also a little relieved they didn't give a two-minute penalty for cross-checking). I also don't think the league wants MSU to win the title every year. BUT...I do think they want as many teams in the NCAA tourney as they can get, and MSU winning tonight certainly helps that cause. I don't think I need to remind anyone of what happened last year and the "do-over" they gave Bemidji in the CCHA title game....

Having said that, I don't think tonight's game was rigged. I do take exception, however, if an official actually commented that he would not call a penalty on Tech, or if they said they were putting the whistles away and then reneged on that in the third. Now, Tech did get that penalty shot, but we never had a power play all night. The Mavs had four and, to their credit, capitalized on three of them.

The comments made by the ref(s) are hearsay at this point, but if true, that is not ok. To be clear, MSU was the better team tonight, but the way the game ended and the postgame comments leave a bad taste in my mouth.

I agree with you about that late hooking call. That probably cost Tech the #1 seed. Mavs were on the wrong side of those late game/overtime penalties quite a bit this year, so I certainly know how it feels.

If Tech had beat St. Thomas or LSSU one more time earlier in the year, last night wouldn't have mattered.

If you letting the other team score 3 PP goals off 4 chances, the team isn't giving themselves many chances. It's easy to blame the refs, but if you're going to do that in a road game, for the championship, learn better team discipline and work on the PK. Like turnovers in football, shooting yourself in the foot just makes it harder.

BTW, Tech needs to get ready for St. Thomas. Can't dwell too much on could've/should've, I would be disappointed if they came out flat.

No FloHockey feed?!

i also had no feed for a few moments. Then I backed out to the game menu and saw that MSU Vs. Tech was listed twice, for some reason. I clicked on the second listing and the game came right up. I'm pretty late in this response, obviously so perhaps you discovered that too. I've seen that before on the Flo Hockey menu,..some kind of technical glitch maybe? I had no issues with the game feed, however.

You're probably aware, but just in case, they can't call a minor penalty based on replay review; only majors. So, they could wave off the goal, but not give the two-minute penalty.

Actually, I was not aware so thanks for clarifying. I feel like I've seen that scenario, though. Perhaps in the NHL or maybe in years past?

While this is true, the way Tech lose leaves a person with a bad feeling.

They don't ask how, they ask how many. Two more very important wins for the Huskies this weekend and we move on. I expect nothing less than a rocking building next weekend. Let's get two more wins!

Looking at the CHN Pairwise Probability Matrix, it looks like Tech should make it in.

Tech need to stop the mistakes and relying on Blake to keep them in the game. He is amazing and consistent, but they can't keep going to the well.

I agree. We typically allow the other team to turn the defense several times per game and we get away with it because of Blake but against high skill teams doing that will get us killed. We also allow several times per game, the other team to get multiple shots on net close in, again we cannot continue to get away with that. I do not see us winning a game in the NCAA's though I do think we make it in.

Yes. We give away so many breakaways and odd man rushes a game it is because of Blake that we didn't finish last. Unfortunately he won't get the national recognition he deserves.

I'm just dumbfounded how our D seems to be ok with letting Blake bale them out time and time again. Granted, if you would give anyone what we had returning on D and what has happened to the D core, one would be shocked that we are 11th in the pairwise.
