>< Michigan Tech Huskies 2022-23: Over One Century of Hockey ><

This may have been posted a few years ago but it's the first time I saw it.
I was at a friend's house, his kid and friend were watching S.W.A.T. on Netflix.
A part of the episode was protecting a pro hockey player getting death threats for giving out a cheap shot.
There he was John Scott. He did quite well, it was season 1 episode 6 or 7

LOL talk about type casting. : D

Last week was the anniversary of "The goal". Bobby Orr scoring the goal to win the Stanley cup for the Bruins. Most people now days have no idea just how much the game changed when Orr came in. It was massive. Suddenly defensemen scored. He had 6, 100 pt seasons out of the 12 years he played. His plus- minus in those 12 years was +582. He won the Norris trophy 8 times. He just had an ability that was hardly noticeable but at the end of the game you were still in shock. For instance in one stride he could change speeds from normal to not a speed normal humans could skate. This made people miss when they tried to hit him. He'd suddenly take one or two quick strides and the situation went from normal to Orr in alone. He had vision . it seemed he had eyes in the side of his head. He did end to end rushes all the time which quite often resulted in goals. So opponents were trying real hard to murder him. They missed and missed and missed. His stick handling was on a different planet. He never ever looked at the puck. He just made the smallest of shifts and boom, grade A chance. It was an amazing privilege to see him play in person. And though many great players have come since, no one changed the game like he did.

He dominated in a relative way, in his peer group, that might be unequaled. I read about a time when Bobby Hull asked the ref to put another puck on the ice "so the rest of us will have something to do".

Any word on when we get an offseason update and info on the 3rd assistant? I have an assumption who it will be, but that could be very wrong given his stated career is outside of hockey.

Lost in the offseason doldrums was that Isaac Gordon, originally recruited by us but verbaled to Sparty last August, flipped his commitment from State to Tech back in May. He will join this fall and brings a 22-19-41 stat line from his past season with the USHL's Chicago Steel. Hopefully he can score some goals.

I'm guessing this happened around the time that Matthew Wang, who was slated for 2024, indicated that he would sign with the OHL's Flint Firebirds (and made it official on 5/18).

That's great news. Seems like a finisher and everyone knows, we need those badly!

New goalie commitment came in yesterday for 2024 - Max Beckford. 2021-2022 he played in the AJHL for two different teams, and after the initial adjustment period for a rookie goalie moving up to Junior A, his numbers there improved. He played this past season in the NAHL for the Wisconsin Windigo, where his stats were very good. This fall, he'll look to take another step as he jumps to the BCHL's Langley Rivermen.

I don't think it's an oversight.

What's that supposed to mean? So you're suggesting they are purposely being secretive? This is the quietest off season for Tech hockey that I can remember in a very long time....no Joe Shawhan hour updates, no hype videos, etc...it does make me wonder what the heck is going on.

Are they considering giving Mel Pearson a second chance to come back as a 3rd assistant or something crazy like that which would require a great deal of quiet consideration...(that's my wild speculation for the sake of self amusement).

Anyone else have any rumors or speculation of either the realistic or unrealistic variety?

I don't think it's an oversight.

So... What would cause them to be so secretive? We have the CCHA all everything goalie coming back and our entire top forward line. We have the reigning coach and ROY. We put our a commercial during the MN HS Hockey playoffs and made the NCAA's as an at large bid. Our CCHA nemesis, MnSU, acquired a struggling hockey program in Madison moved their entire coaching staff and most of their top returning players there. We have a legitimate shot at the CCHA and another NCAA tournament appearance. It makes no sense why we follow it up with the sound of crickets over the summer?

It has been a long hot summer, we need some hockey kool-aid!

Do you honestly think the coach is so clueless as to not know that there hasn't been a show all summer?. IMHO he feels like the show divulges information in some way which doesn't help the program, it hurts it. If he feels that way, then by all means, no show. It's fine with me. Sure we have good stuff going on but personally I think it's due to recruiting, which he does not want to jeopardize. You all should have been able to deduce this on your own.

yeah, it has been kinda quiet... my take (not anyone else);

jamie phillips is our third coach - there is no reason to find another, even if paid. after jamie is gone (graduates), maybe we'll look for another. i think the current staff sees no need. why have too many cooks in one kitchen? that sometimes, many times, does not work out. and it cost$$$ money.

the reason to not have a joe show has probably lots more to do with suzanne sanregret then joe. while he is awesome (i mean, entertaining) at these chances he gets, the amount of times he has put his foot in his mouth makes it not worth to take a chance... he says way too much that he shouldn't.

but what do i know. wait... i know it's time for a new thread;
