>< Michigan Tech Huskies 2022-23: Over One Century of Hockey ><

From Newark Liberty, it's a straight shot west on I78. Most of the traffic will be around the airport.

My wife has actually made this drive a few times for work. But she would do the reverse, fly into Allentown (company pays for it) and then drive to corporate headquarters just to the west of Newark. She has said the drive isn't bad.

[Philly] people there aren't any different than anywhere else in the world.

Philly's got its problems these days, but I like the city. And Allentown's not metro Philly, so the "dissuade a lot of rational people" comment by that other person is way off mark.

So the USCHO TMQ column today, with those preeminent slaps Rubin and Weston, managed to get through 15 teams of the 16 in the field with at least one mention and discussed numerous other schools who didn't qualify. No points for guessing who got left out, but your hint is that they decided to use a picture from that school attached to the article.

SMH. One would think being in the top 15 most of the year, making the tournament back to back years, having a Richter and Hobey Baker finalist, one of the best traveling fan base,...

Of course Paula wants to talk about the B1G, the conference she covers these days and presumably follows the most. Mankato was in the championship game last year. We bowed out of our conference tournament by getting shoutout in the semis and sat at home last weekend. Everyone knows Blake is the reason we're even still playing. What else is there to really discuss?

Everyone assumes we will lose to Penn State in the opening round and I'm fine with Tech flying under the radar until Friday.

Well, I suppose they "managed to get through" Minnesota State, but it was to mention that we weren't as good as past years. And that was it. I'm not sure either of those 2 could name the members of the CCHA.
I did think to use Shawhan's picture, and then not mention the team, was a little weird.

Probably an afterthought by the editor and/or site admin. "Oh, they didn't talk about MTU, probably should at least mention them...hey I know, we'll throw in a pic!"

I don't get the group hug article writing deal.

This stat is mind boggling.

Since Tech's last NCAA win (the 1981 consolation game vs NMU) there have been no fewer than 45 other schools who have at least one win in the tournament.

The three longest droughts are (for teams who have won a game in the tournament):

1981 - Michigan Tech (W 5-2 vs NMU in consolation game)
1979 - Dartmouth (W 7-3 vs UNH in consolation game)
1976 - Brown (W 8-7 vs BU in consolation game)

These current teams have never won a game in the NCAA tournament:

Army - rejoined D1 in 1980
UAF - went D1 in 1984 (vacated only appearance)
SHU - went D1 in 1993
Canisius - went D1 in 1998 (2 appearances before this season)
Bentley - went D1 in 1998
Mercyhurst - went D1 in 1998 (3 appearances)
Arizona St - went D1 in 2015 (1 appearance)
St Thomas - went D1 in 2021
LIU - went D1 in 2021
Lindenwood - went D1 in 2022
Stonehill - went D1 in 2022
UConn - went D1 in 1998

And if you still consider them active, Alabama-Huntsville has two appearances with no wins and Robert Morris has one appearance with no wins.

Niagara beat New Hampshire 4-1 in 2000 in Minneapolis.

Don't know about that. I'd argue PSU is one of if not the most overrated teams in the tournament, and definitely the weakest of the 2 seeds.

I've learned not to make predictions in this tournament, but Tech got a good draw with them and I won't be the least bit surprised to see Tech knock em out.

Congrats to them. Dirk does a great job hosting the JSH. Joe's honesty and bluntness is rare for someone in that position.

NMU had an interesting name enter the portal

Perhaps a bit PO'ed he wasn't named CCHA RotY? ;-)

Larson's hoping to land in the B1G, I'll bet. We'll start seeing more of this at small schools with the new transfer rule as some guys like him bloom late, or don't get offered enough/any scholarship money from a blue blood school, or are told to wait another year. They will play their freshman season for a mid-major program who offers them a scholie, aim to light it up and "build their resume", and then bolt after a year. There will probably be some degree of collusion on this between programs and "family advisors", it's inevitable.
