Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

To take the train to Lowell you need to get to North Station. To do that, you would either need to take a taxi or the MBTA - Blue line to State St, change to the Orange line to North Station. Doable but time consuming. And is the amount you save in taxes seriously worth the time and aggravation to Lowell and then figure out how to get a rental car from New Hampshire?

Wait..Wait...I had this on a test in school: A Husky leaves Houghton for Boston traveling 70 miles and hour, but isn't sure where he is going. A week earlier, a Terrier is traveling west, but isn't sure where South Bend or Fargo are, because he's never been west of Lowell. Which one reaches his destination first? Meanwhile, a Badger can travel 500 miles in a day, but only if his team wins a game that day. How long until he gets anywhere?

Pretty sure the answer is B. It's always B, right?

There is a direct bus every hour from Logan to Manchester airport and back

I know. Bbdl said the times weren't that great so he thought it be easier to take the commuter rail to Lowell and somehow get a rental car in NH. I was giving him some background on what that would take. That bus isn't free.

Lowell is north. Worcester is west. :)

Enterprise will pick you up! :D

I am not sure if the bus that manurespreader mentioned is the same one that I found. I thought the times for what I saw were more inconvenient than once an hour. It seems more focused around commutes, with limited operation on weekends. Maybe there are more than one bus options?

Well there you go... problme solved! Rent from Manchester, tell them to pick you up in Boston :D

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Sorry about that, I could have swore that the UA_ player listed initially was removed...sorry it was a Michigan State player...my mistake.

interesting article to go along with prospect discussion.

According to NCAA surveys, more than 60 percent of Division I college men’s ice hockey players think it’s likely they’ll play professionally, but less than 1 percent ever go on to the National Hockey League

There's at least half dozen shuttle services to Manchester from Logan. the one most people use is here.

or here.
http://www.flightlineinc.com

the second is on the hour every hour.

There are any number of other ones. I believe also there is a bus that requires you to show your Boston boarding pass to get on, however I can't find it any longer, so it might not still exist. It's been 3 or 4 years since I flew into Manchester.

Edit. the boarding pass bus is no longer there.

I bet 60% do play professionally. In the ECHL, AHL, CHL, European leagues, etc. There are tons of professional leagues out there, and the NHL is just the top of the heap.

yeah, most of them never get there but even during our lean years, about half of the seniors played pro somewhere for a period of time.

So what you're saying is that now that we have some talent in the system, I'm really going to be broke in a few years...
I'm already having a hard time keeping up.

Eh, given the opportunity cost of playing in leagues that pay worse than the AHL or DEL (i.e. forgoing the salary you could earn by putting your degree to work), I'm not impressed by a 50% figure. I mean, who's proud that Dan Sova is making essentially minimum wage in the SPHL?

I never said I was proud of that...beyond getting your start in the ECHL there isn't much point in trying to hang on in that league...although I will say that I was pretty proud of Riley Nelson for being such a great player for the Colorado Eagles. That was pretty cool even if it was in a 3rd tier league in the US.

Well, if some of them can get by for a few years, playing the game they love, just because they enjoy doing it, more power to them. I don't see any problem with that.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Congratulations to a slew of Huskies named in the all-WCHA teams.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Tanner Kero
STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR - Tanner Kero
ALL-WCHA FIRST TEAM - Tanner Kero & Jamie Phillips
ALL-WCHA SECOND TEAM - Alex Petan & Malcolm Gould
ALL-WCHA THIRD TEAM - Blake Pietila & Shane Hanna

Tech also placed 11 players on the all-Academic team.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Tanner Kero is only the third Huskies player to be named WCHA Player of the Year, joining D Rob Murray (1971) and F Mike Zuke (1976). He's also the third to win Student-Athlete of the Year, joining G Geoff Sarjeant (1992) and D Eli Vlaisavljevich (2010).

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Congrats to Tanner, absolutely 100% deserved. In that vein, if the Gold Jersey order goes through I want one of the 2 to be a T. Kero jersey, probably the cream one.
